خب، داستان از اونجا شروع شد که اولش، از همون خشتک، یه مشت چرت و پرت ریختن تو کلّم.

زندگی، دین، خانواده، جامعه، سیاست، فرهنگ و هزار تا آشغال دیگه. هرچی هم بیشتر یاد می گرفتیم و بیشتر بلد بودیم گنده بگوزیم، می گفتن چقدر بارته و تشویقت می کردن، اینقدی که فک می کردی دیگه کون همه چیز و همه کس رو داری پاره می کنی تو دنیا.

یاد دادن که وقتی کارت جایی گیر کرد، اینقده سمج باش تا بالاخره حقتو بگیری، اینقده آویزون شو تا ... راستی گفتم آویزون، یاد صاحب خدابیامرز آویزون دات کام افتادم. بنده خدا رو اعدامش کردن.

آخرش ذهنت وقتی پر شد از اون همه چیز خوب، می خوای بدونی می تونی باهاشون چی کار کنی. بذار بهت بگم: هیچ گهی نمی تونی بخوری.

می رسی به یه خلاء. وقتی که همه دَرِت مالیدن و سیر شدی حسابی از زندگیت.

این مسئله واست تبدیل به چرخه می شه.

یه چیزی یاد می گیری، می خوای یه کاری بکنی، همه دَرِت می مالن به خلاء می رسی، دوباره یه چیزی یاد می گیری ، می خوای یه کاری بکنی و ...

بعدش می شینی یه گوشه به خودت نیگا می کنی و خودتو می بینی که چقدر ماهرانه هر دفعه خودت رو گول می زنی که این بار آخریه که این چرخه داره تکرار می شه و وقتی می خوای یه کاری بکنی... موفق می شی!

بعد از یه مدت می فهمی که دیگه نمی تونی خودت رو گول بزنی، پس میای بخشی از وجودت رو به یه کار جدید اختصاص میدی.

یه چرخه جدید درست می کنی و یه سیکل دیگه...

می شی یه دلقک که با یه دستش یه کاری می کنه و اون یکی دستش کارِ دیگه. اگه خیلی هم حرفه ای باشی با پاهات و کلّتم می تونی هنرنمایی کنی.

خدا اون بالا نشسته و بهت می خنده. از ته دل. از اینکه یه مخلوق ابتر درست کرده و مایۀ خنده داره.

خیلی ها تا همین جاش می مونن و آخرشم یه دلقک پیر می شن و می میرن.

دلم می خواست فقط یه لحظه به خودم بیام، نقابم رو بردارم، صورتم رو از این همه گریم بشورم و ... نمی دونم. بعدش هیچی دیگه نخوام تو زندگی. هیچی.

جرس: جعفر پناهی، فیلم‌ساز ایرانی ار سوی شعبه‌ ۲۶ دادگاه انقلاب به قضاوت پیرعباسی به "شش سال حبس تعزیری و ۲۰ سال محرومیت از ساختن و کارگردانی هر نوع فیلم و نوشتن فیلمنامه و هر نوع مصاحبه با رسانه‌ها و مطبوعات داخلی و خارجی و خروج از کشور" محکوم شد.

به گزارش کمیته گزارشگران حقوق بشر، این رای با استناد به مواد ۵۰۰، ۶۱۰ و ۱۹ قانون مجازات اسلامی و به اتهام «اجتماع و تبانی با هدف ارتکاب جرم علیه امنیت کشور و فعالیت تبلیغی علیه نظام جمهوری اسلامی» صادر شده است.

جعفر پناهی، فیلمساز ایرانی، چندی پیش به مناسبت برگزاری ۶۰ امین دوره جشنواره فیلم برلین از سوی برگزاركنندگان به این جشنواره دعوت شد.

پناهی، بار اول در روز پنجشنبه ۸ مرداد‌ماه ۱۳۸۸ هنگامی که به همراه گروه دیگری از فیلم‌سازان برای گرامیداشت کشته‌شدگان اعتراضات به نتایج انتخابات ریاست جمهوری دهم به بهشت زهرا رفته بود، به‌همراه مهناز محمدی، مستندساز بازداشت و پس از چند روز آزاد شد. وی در بار دوم در تاریخ دوشنبه ۱۰ اسفندماه به همراه ۱۸ نفر دیگر در منزل شخصی‌اش و در حالی که در حال ساخت فیلمی جدید بود، بازداشت شد.

در چهارم خرداد ۱۳۸۹، این کارگردان برجسته‌ی ایرانی به دستور بازپرس و تایید دادستان عمومی و انقلاب تهران با تودیع وثیقهٔ ۲۰۰ میلیون تومانی از زندان آزاد شد.

سی سال گذشت...

آتش جنگی که بعداً دفاع مقدس نامیده شد در این روزها افروخته شد.

به فرمان ولی فقیه آن زمان جوان و پیر عازم جنگ شدند تا در حربه ای که به نام جنگ حق علیه باطل نامگذاری شده بود، شرکت کنند و جانشان را در این فدا کنند تا مملکتی داشته باشیم عاری از بیگانه، به قول شهیدی "مملکتی سرشار از معنویت!"

8 سال تمامی سرمایه و بودجه کشور در این راه صرف شد، جنگی که پس از عقب نشینی عراق از خاک ایران به دست نظام ادامه یافت، می خواستیم اتوبانی از کربلا به قدس بزنیم!

(کربلا کربلا ما داریم می آییم... ) شعارهایی اینچنین سر دادند و رهبری 13 ساله انتخاب کردند با کاریزمایی شخصیتی خاص، تا درس عشق و صداقت را جوانان به جای آنکه پشت میز مدرسه و پای تخته سیاه یاد بگیرند، با صلاح و خون و فریاد بیاموزند...

آن روزها گذشت، 3 نسل از ایرانیان درگیر این جنگ شد...

روزهایی که دیگر باز نخواهند گشت، آنقدر گفتیم مرگ بر منافقین و صدام که طناب دار را بر گردن صدام دیدیم!

هنوز هم در هر جشن و عزایی استخوان هایی در تابوت در شهر می گردانیم و برایشان گریه می کنیم و درد دل های خود را با آنان در میان می گذاریم.

حال مردی آمده است از جنس همان مردان، نخست وزیر سابق همان ولی فقیه که کاریزمای خویش را با مطالبه حق ملت به معاوضه گذاشته است، اکنون او سخن از حقیقتی می زند که این سال ها خیلی ها به دنبال پنهان کردن آن بودند.

دسته ای که قصد حذف کردن و محدود کردن خیلی چیزها را دارند تا بُرِش خود را بیشتر کنند و حزب رستاخیز دیگری به تاریخ این کشور اضافه کنند.

آقای نخست وزیر آمد و سخن از همت و باکری زد، او بسیچ را طوری دیگر خطاب کرد و استفاده ابزاری از فرهنگ و هنر را منع کرد اما چه کسانی به راستی به عمق سخنانش پی بردند؟

روزگاری مردم دلخوش به آن بودند که اگر نان در سفره نیست، حداقل کتابی برای خواندن هست. اما با ورود افرادی به صحنه که دم از مکتب ایرانی اسلام نیز می زنند، فرهنگ جای خود را به خشونت داد. آقای نخست وزیر حرکت خوبی است که امسال به کارگران و معلمان راه را نشان دهیم، شاید برای نسل بعد ثمر و نتیجه ای به بار آورد.

Mix design

Modern concrete mix designs can be complex. The design of a concrete, or the way the weights of the components of a concrete is determined, is specified by the requirements of the project and the various local building codes and regulations.

The design begins by determining the "durability" requirements of the concrete. These requirements take into consideration the weather conditions that the concrete will be exposed to in service, and the required design strength. The compressive strength of a concrete is determined by taking standard molded, standard-cured cylinder samples.

Many factors need to be taken into account, from the cost of the various additives and aggregates, to the trade offs between, the "slump" for easy mixing and placement and ultimate performance.

A mix is then designed using cement (Portland or other cementitious material), coarse and fine aggregates, water and chemical admixtures. The method of mixing will also be specified, as well as conditions that it may be used in.

This allows a user of the concrete to be confident that the structure will perform properly.

Various types of concrete have been developed for specialist application and have become known by these names.

Regular concrete

Regular concrete is the lay term describing concrete that is produced by following the mixing instructions that are commonly published on packets of cement, typically using sand or other common material as the aggregate, and often mixed in improvised containers. This concrete can be produced to yield a varying strength from about 10 MPa (1450 psi) to about 40 MPa (5800 psi), depending on the purpose, ranging from blinding to structural concrete respectively. Many types of pre-mixed concrete are available which include powdered cement mixed with an aggregate, needing only water.

Typically, a batch of concrete can be made by using 1 part Portland cement, 2 parts dry sand, 3 parts dry stone, 1/2 part water. The parts are in terms of weight – not volume. For example, 1-cubic-foot (0.028 m³) of concrete would be made using 22 lb (10.0 kg) cement, 10 lb (4.5 kg) water, 41 lb (19 kg) dry sand, 70 lb (32 kg) dry stone (1/2" to 3/4" stone). This would make 1-cubic-foot (0.028 m³) of concrete and would weigh about 143 lb (65 kg). The sand should be mortar or brick sand (washed and filtered if possible) and the stone should be washed if possible. Organic materials (leaves, twigs, etc) should be removed from the sand and stone to ensure the highest strength.

High-strength concrete

High-strength concrete has a compressive strength generally greater than 6,000 pounds per square inch (40 MPa = 5800 psi). High-strength concrete is made by lowering the water-cement (W/C) ratio to 0.35 or lower. Often silica fume is added to prevent the formation of free calcium hydroxide crystals in the cement matrix, which might reduce the strength at the cement-aggregate bond.

Low W/C ratios and the use of silica fume make concrete mixes significantly less workable, which is particularly likely to be a problem in high-strength concrete applications where dense rebar cages are likely to be used. To compensate for the reduced workability, superplasticizers are commonly added to high-strength mixtures. Aggregate must be selected carefully for high-strength mixes, as weaker aggregates may not be strong enough to resist the loads imposed on the concrete and cause failure to start in the aggregate rather than in the matrix or at a void, as normally occurs in regular concrete.

In some applications of high-strength concrete the design criterion is the elastic modulus rather than the ultimate compressive strength.

Stamped concrete

Stamped concrete is an architectural concrete which has a superior surface finish. After a concrete floor has been laid, floor hardeners (can be pigmented) are impregnated on the surface and a mold which may be textured to replicate a stone / brick or even wood is stamped on to give a attractive textured surface finish. After sufficient hardening the surface is cleaned and generally sealed to give a protection. The wear resistance of stamped concrete is generally excellent and hence found in applications like parking lots, pavements, walkways etc.

High-performance concrete

High-performance concrete (HPC) is a relatively new term used to describe concrete that conforms to a set of standards above those of the most common applications, but not limited to strength. While all high-strength concrete is also high-performance, not all high-performance concrete is high-strength. Some examples of such standards currently used in relation to HPC are:

Self-consolidating concretes

During the 1980s a number of countries including Japan, Sweden and France developed concretes that are self-compacting, known as self-consolidating concrete in the United States. This self-consolidating concrete (SCCs) is characterized by:

extreme fluidity as measured by flow, typically between 650-750 mm on a flow table, rather than slump(height)
no need for vibrators to compact the concrete
placement being easier.
no bleed water, or aggregate segregation
Increased Liquid Head Pressure, Can be detrimental to Safety and workmanship

SCC can save up to 50% in labor costs due to 80% faster pouring and reduced wear and tear on formwork.

As of 2005, self-consolidating concretes account for 10-15% of concrete sales in some European countries. In the US precast concrete industry, SCC represents over 75% of concrete production. 38 departments of transportation in the US accept the use of SCC for road and bridge projects.

This emerging technology is made possible by the use of polycarboxylates plasticizer instead of older naphthalene based polymers, and viscosity modifiers to address aggregate segregation.

Vacuum concretes

The use of steam to produce a vacuum inside of concrete mixing truck to release air bubbles inside the concrete is being researched. The idea is the steam will remove the air that is trapped inside the concrete. The steam will condense into water and will create low pressure, pulling out air from the concrete. This will make the concrete stronger due to there being less air in the mixture.

Shotcrete

Main article: Shotcrete

Shotcrete (also known by the trade name Gunite) uses compressed air to shoot concrete onto (or into) a frame or structure. The greatest advantage of the process is that shotcrete can be applied overhead or on vertical surfaces without forming. It is often used for concrete repairs or placement on bridges, dams, pools, and on other applications where forming is costly or material handling and installation is difficult. Shotcrete is frequently used against vertical soil or rock surfaces, as it eliminates the need for formwork. It is sometimes used for rock support, especially in tunneling. Shotcrete is also used for applications where seepage is an issue to limit the amount of water entering a construction site due to a high water table or other subterranean sources. This type of concrete is often used as a quick fix for weathering for loose soil types in construction zones.

There are two application methods for shotcrete.

dry-mix – the dry mixture of cement and aggregates is filled into the machine and conveyed with compressed air through the hoses. The water needed for the hydration is added at the nozzle.
wet-mix – the mixes are prepared with all necessary water for hydration. The mixes are pumped through the hoses. At the nozzle compressed air is added for spraying.

For both methods additives such as accelerators and fiber reinforcement may be used.^[2]

منظور زاهدان است، شهری که دیار رستم بود، جایگاه اساطیر ایران. بلوچستانی که سرشار از عرفان و دشتی برای ملاقات خدا. کویری که در آن به خدا نزدیکتریم، آسمانی که آبی است و هوایی که سرشار از زندگی.

گروه جندالله این عملیات تروریستی را به عهده گرفت و آتش دشمنی را در این سرزمین دوباره شعله ور کرد. دشمنی میان بلوچ و فارس... اما ای هموطن، ای ایرانی، ای آریایی... ما از همان سرزمینی هستیم که روزگاری در آن کوروشی فرمانروایی می کرد.

با داشتن حس ناسیونالیستی تا حدّی مخالفم، چرا که دریچه ذهن آدمی را به روی سایر فرهنگ ها تا حدودی بسته نگه می دارد، اما حس انسان دوستی و شرافتی که در ما ایرانیان است را نبایستی فراموش کنیم.

سوال اصلی اینجاست:

چه کسانی تسلیحات لازم برای جنگ علیه کشور را در اختیار شورشیان شبه بلوچ قرار می دهند؟

آیا منافع این افراد در راستای منافع شورشیان است؟

چه کسانی به طالبان در پاکستان و افغانستان اسلحه می فروشند؟

آیا سلاح های مورد استفاده آنان، به جز سلاح های آمریکایی و روسی است؟

با نگاهی کمی فراتر از مسائل به ظاهر مذهبی و قومی خواهیم دانست که محرکین این گونه حرکات افرادی نیستند جز فروشندگان تسلیحات نظامی که سالیانه بالغ بر میلیاردها دلار از این راه سود عایدشان می شود و تنها خرابی و ویرانی در کشورهای جهان سومی و در حال توسعه باقی می گذارند.

جنگی نابرابر میان اسلحه و انسانیت.

هنگامی که اختلافی مذهبی یا قومی با چاشنی اسلحه رنگ می گیرد نه تنها این اختلاف به نتیجه نمی رسد، بلکه به ضرر هر دو طرف و به سود فروشندگان تسلیحات است.

در نظام جمهوری اسلامی نیز این نگرش نادیده گرفته شده است که این اختلافات را با روشی تلافی جویانه پاسخ ندهند و درد را از ریشه درمان کنند.

وقتی که سرداری سپاهی را برای آشتی میان سنی و شیعه روانه زاهدان می کنید و پس از عملیات انتحاری یک بلوچ آن سردار را شهید سرافراز اسلام قلمداد می کنید، مسلماً احساسات بلوچ و اهل تسنن را برانگیخته اید.

البته نا گفته نماند که این برانگیخته کردن نیز جزوی از بازی سیاست است، تا به سایر ایرانیان بقبولانند که همیشه دشمنی خارجی و عاملی برانداز وجود دارد و بایستی برای رهایی از این دشمن خارجی که گرگی بسیار درّنده است به نظام تمسک بجوییم.

راهبردی منسوخ و متعلق به نازیهای جنگ جهانی دوم

دیوار نوشته هایی بزرگ از علاقه رهبران حکومتی به نیرویی نظامی تنها این نگرش را در اذهان بر می انگیزد که ادب و فرهنگ و هنر بازیچه ای بیش نیست و آنچه مهم است حفظ آرمان های نظامی کشور در مقابله با نیرویی به ظاهر مخوف و خطرناک.

راهکار چیست؟ وظیفه قشر دانشجو در این باره به کجا ختم می شود؟

آیا بایستی همانند سایر اقشار به کنش و واکنش های روزمره دست بزنیم؟

I read an article in digg.com about the rate of using mobile internet in American adults. As a matter of fact the most important reason that this technology is not popular enough in Iran is lack of fundamental structures of Mobile Operators.

In early days 1^st operator (Hamrah-e-Awal) made a new opportunity for its customers to use internet on their cell phones monthly. But the speed is just enough to open some text pages without any pictures and sound files.

The good point is that there is no filtering till now on mobile internet by using Mini Opera software.

Let’s talk about American mobile internet a bit…

There Are 75 Million US Adults On The Mobile Internet, More Than Half Of Them Daily

At this point is there anyone who questions that the “mobile internet” has arrived? While marketers and many search marketers in particular are still “experimenting” with mobile, consumers are checking in, accessing social networks and searching on their handsets in stores.

A trio of new reports released in the past two days confirms the growing and even strategic importance of mobility.

Forty percent of mobile subscriber’s owners go online on their mobile phones

Pew Internet conducted a telephone survey of 2,252 US adults in April and May regarding mobile activity and behavior. The report contains more data than I can explore here. However the big takeaway is how large and engaged the mobile internet audience already is.

Here are a few relevant data points from the report:

· 82% of Pew survey respondents said they owned a mobile phone. That translates into roughly 187 million, out of 228 million US adults overall.

· 38% – 40% of that population goes online from their handsets, or about 75 million people (for 18-29 yr olds that number is 65%)

· 55% of mobile Internet users are online via their mobile phones at least once a day and 43% are access the mobile Internet “several times a day.”

Introducing a free E-library

I was surfing on net to find a huge free library. At least I found Gutenberg's Library that has over 33,000 books available to download and read.

In July 1971, Michael Hart created Project Gutenberg with the goal of making
available for free, and electronically, literary works belonging to public
domain. A pioneer site in a number of ways, Project Gutenberg was the first
information provider on the internet and is the oldest digital library. When the
internet became popular, in the mid-1990s, the project got a boost and an
international dimension. The number of electronic books rose from 1,000 (in
August 1997) to 5,000 (in April 2002), 10,000 (in October 2003), 15,000 (in
January 2005), 20,000 (in December 2006) and 25,000 (in April 2008), with a
current production rate of around 340 new books each month. With 55 languages
and 40 mirror sites around the world, books are being downloaded by the tens of
thousands every day. Project Gutenberg promotes digitization in "text format",
meaning that a book can be copied, indexed, searched, analyzed and compared with
other books. Contrary to other formats, the files are accessible for
low-bandwidth use. The main source of new Project Gutenberg eBooks is
Distributed Proofreaders, launched in October 2000 by Charles Franks to help in
the digitizing of books from public domain.

Also Mobile version is really complete and I prefer it to my friends.

لیزرهای 5 میلیون کیلومتری برای آزمایش نظریه اینشتین

قبلا درباره نظریه نسبیت انشتین در وبلاگم صحبت کرده بودم، بخش آخری از نظریه انشتین که هنوز به اثبات نرسیده قرار شده توسط سه تا فضاپیما آزمایش بشه...

قرار است سه فضاپیما در فاصله 60 میلیون کیلومتری زمین مستقر شوند و با شلیک پرتوهای لیزر به سمت یکدیگر، مثلثی متساوی‌الاضلاع به ضلع 5 میلیون کیلومتر را تشکیل و نظریه نسبیت آلبرت اینشتین را بررسی کنند.

فیزیکدانان امیدوارند این ماموریت رویایی که لایزا (LISA) نام گرفته، امکان اثبات وجود امواج گرانشی را که در نظریه مشهور نسبیت عام اینشتین پیش‌بینی شده، فراهم کند. وجود امواج گرانشی آخرین قسمت از نظریه نسبیت عام است که هنوز درستی آن اثبات نشده است.

این ماموریت که با همکاری ناسا و آژانس فضایی اروپا، اسا انجام می‌شود، از سه فضاپیما استفاده می‌کند که در هر کدام مکعب‌های پلاتین طلایی رنگی شناور است. پرتوهای لیزری که بین دو فضاپیما شلیک می‌شوند، برای اندازه‌گیری دقیق تغییر فاصله بین مکعب‌ها استفاده می‌شوند. این تغییرات توسط امواج گرانشی تولید می‌شوند که توسط رویدادهای فاجعه‌باری مانند برخورد دو سیاه‌چاله در اعماق فضا منتشر می‌شوند.

نظریه نسبیت عام اینشتین پیش‌بینی می‌کند که وقتی اجسام بزرگی مانند سیاه‌چاله‌ها با هم برخورد می‌کنند، موج‌های کوچکی در فضا منتشر شده و فضا و زمان را در جهت انتشار خود تغییر می‌دهند. این امواج به نام امواج گرانشی شناخته می‌شوند.

حالا در آستانه آغاز این ماموریت، یک گروه از کارشناسان بین‌المللی جزئیات این ماموریت فضایی بزرگ را شرح داده‌اند که در صورت موفقیت می‌تواند بینش‌های جدیدی در مورد جهان اطرافمان به ما بدهد.

پروفسور جیم هوگ، کارشناس امواج گرانشی از دانشگاه گلاسکو و عضو کمیته پیاده‌سازی این طرح‌ها در این باره گفت: «امواج گرانشی آخرین بخش از نظریه نسبت عام اینشتین هستند که هنوز درستی آن اثبات نشده است. این امواج زمانی که اشیای غول‌پیکری مانند سیاه‌چاله‌ها یا ستارگان متلاشی شده در فضا شتاب می‌گیرند، تولید می‌شوند. شاید دلیل این موضوع آن باشد که آن‌ها توسط نیروهای جاذبه قدرتمندتری مانند سیاه‌چاله‌های بزرگ به سمت اشیا دیگر کشیده می‌شوند. متاسفانه ما هنوز هم نتوانستیم آن‌ها را شناسایی کنیم، چرا که این امواج بسیار ضعیفند. اگرچه آزمایش‌های جدیدی که ما در حال کار روی آن‌ها هستیم، پتانسیل بالایی برای کمک به ما در شناسایی و ردیابی این امواج دارند».

تلاش‌هایی که در سطح زمین برای یافتن امواج گرانشی انجام شده، تاکنون با موفقیت همراه نبوده و در این جا فقط می‌توان به دنبال امواج گرانشی با فرکانس‌های بسیار بالا بود.

دانشمندان قبلا توانسته‌اند تعدادی از پیش‌بینی‌های منتج از نظریه نسبت عام اینشتین را اثبات کنند. برای مثال خم شدن نور در اثر نیروی جاذبه، این‌که گرانش با سرعت ثابتی حرکت می‌کند، زمان توسط جاذبه منحرف می‌شوند و زمان و فضا قابل خم شدن هستند، همگی آزمایش و تایید شده‌اند. دیگر پیش‌بینی‌های نظریه نسبیت مانند رابطه مشهور E=mc²

نیز سالیان سال است که تایید شده‌اند.

لایزا که مخفف عبارت آنتن فضایی تداخل‌سنج لیزری است، با تکیه بر فاصله بسیار زیاد بین سه فضاپیما می‌تواند امواج گرانشی را در فرکانس‌های بسیار پایین شناسایی کند. این بزرگ‌ترین آشکارسازی است که تاکنون ساخته شده است.

البته قبل از اجرای این پروژه بزرگ، ماموریت آزمایشی کوچک‌تری به نام مسیریاب لایزا توسط مهندسان انگلیسی در شرکت فضایی Astrium EADS در حال ساخته شدن و اجراست که سال آینده پرتاب خواهد شد.

البته دانشمندان قبلا شروع ساخت ابزارهایی را که در ماموریت لایزا به کار گرفته خواهند شد را آغاز کرده‌اند، اما انتظار نمی‌رود که آن‌ها تا قبل از سال 2020 آماده به کار شوند.

دانشمندان امیدوارند بعد از شناسایی امواج گرانشی، اطلاعات جدیدی در مورد جهانی که نمی‌توان با پرتوهای الکترومغناطیسی مانند نور ، امواج رادیویی و اشعه‌های ایکس دید، به دست بیاورند.

پروفسور شیلا روان که امواج گرانشی را در دانشگاه گلاسکو مطالعه می‌کند، در این باره اضافه کرد: «سیاه‌چاله‌ها آن‌قدر متراکم هستند که هیچ نور و یا پرتوی نمی‌تواند از داخل آن‌ها خارج شود. اما امواج گرانشی که از فضازمان پیچیده شده در اطراف سیاهچاله‌ها منتشر می‌شود، می‌تواند روش جدیدی برای نگاه کردن به آن‌ها به ما بدهد. هم‌چنین می‌توان در مورد وضعیت ماده در داخل ستاره‌های متلاشی شده اطلاعات زیادی کسب کرد».

دکتر رالف کوردی مدیر توسعه تجارت‌های علمی و اکتشافی در Astrium EADS که در حال ساخت مسیریاب لایزا است، در این باره گفت: «تلاش برای اندازه‌گیری رویدادهای کهکشانی مانند سیستم‌های ستاره‌های در حال نابودی یا برخورد سیاه‌چاله‌های غول‌پیکر نیاز به فناوری‌های بسیار دقیق‌تری دارد. هدف اصلی ما اثبات این موضوع است که این فناوری درست کار می‌کند. بعد از مطمئن شدن از این قضیه، ما می‌توانیم سه فضاپیما را با فاصله 5 میلیون کیلومتری از یکدیگر قرار دهیم، به طوری که فقط از طریق پرتوهای لیزر با هم ارتباط داشته باشند و به این ترتیب می‌توان موقعیت آن‌ها را با دقت بی‌نظیر 40 در هر هزار میلیارد قسمت از یک متر اندازه‌گیری کرد.

مهم‌ترین رویداد این هفته، پنهان‌شدن سیاره ناهید پشت قرص ماه است که هرچند در ایران به هنگام روز اتفاق می‌افتد، اما پس از غروب آفتاب می‌توان چشم‌انداز ناهید درخشان را در کنار هلال زیبای ماه به نظاره نشست

امیرحسن‌زاده: در ساعت 5:34 بیست و چهارم اردیبهشت، ماه نو (مقارنه ماه و خورشید) اتفاق می‌افتد. در این حالت، ماه بین خط واصل زمین و خورشید قرار دارد و سطح نورانی ماه دقیقاً در طرفی است که ما نمی‌توانیم آن را ببینیم. لحظه مقارنه ماه و خورشید در واقع لحظه تولد ماه است. این مبداء بسیار شبیه به لحظه تولد انسان یا لحظه‌ی تحویل سال است. اما در این زمان، ماه غیر قابل مشاهده است. با گذشت زمان، به تدریج ماه در مدار خود جابجا می‌شود و از دید ناظر زمینی از خورشید فاصله می‌گیرد، بطوری که بخش کوچکی از سطح روشن آن رو به ناظر زمینی قرار می‌گیرد. در این حالت می‌توانیم شاهد هلال باریک ماه در افق غربی باشیم.

در غروب 24 اردیبهشت، ماه کمی از خورشید فاصله می‌گیرد و هلال‌ آن‌قدر باریک و کم نور خواهد بود که رؤیت آن نیازمند استفاده از چشم مسلح و داشتن تجربه کافی و رصدگاهی مناسب خواهد بود. اما در فردای آن روز، هلال ماه با درخشندگی و ارتفاع بیشتر از درون شهرها نیز قابل رؤیت خواهد بود. طی روز‌های بعد، ماه هر شب دیرتر از شب قبل غروب می‌کند و ضخیم‌تر می‌شود، تا این‌که در ساعت 4:13 آخرین روز اردیبهشت، به تربیع اول می رسد.

کوتوله‌ای در راه برخورد با زمین

تاکنون فیلم‌های مختلفی درباره پایان دنیا ساخته شده که هر یک داستان خود را تعریف می‌کنند؛ اما اخترشناسان از شواهدی از برخورد یک کوتوله نارنجی با خورشید وجود دارد که ممکن است پایان کار دنیای ما باشد.

به احتمال زیاد، چشم‌انداز سیاره ما در طی 1.5 میلیون سال آینده دستخوش تغییر خواهد شد. بر اساس جدیدترین یافته‌های ستاره‌شناسان، 86 درصد احتمال دارد که یکی از ستارگان همسایه ما به نام گلیس 710 (Gliese 710) با ابر پیرامون منظومه شمسی برخورد کند. این برخورد احتمالا باعث پرتاب دنباله‌دارهای فراوانی به سمت زمین خواهد شد.
به گزارش پاپ‌ساینس، وادیم بابیلف از رصدخانه پالکویی سنت‌پترزبورگ روسیه گفت این تنها برخوردی نیست که خورشید ما در آینده نزدیک (البته در مقیاس کیهانی!) با آن مواجه خواهد شد. وی داده‌های چندین پایگاه اطلاعاتی اخترشناسی را با یکدیگر ترکیب کرده و حداقل 9 ستاره دیگر را یافته است. برخی از این ستاره‌ها پیش از این حرکت خود را به سوی خورشید آغاز کرده‌اند و برخی دیگر در آینده نزدیک این کار را انجام خواهند داد

اطلاعات مربوطه به گلیس710 که یک کوتوله نارنجی است، با اندازه‌گیری سرعت و موقعیت حدود صدهزار ستاره به‌دست آمده که در فهرست ماهواره هیپارخوس در سال 1997 / 1376 منتشر شده است. به‌روز کردن داده‌های هیپارکوس در سال 2007 / 1386 به بابیلف اجازه داد تا احتمال برخورد این ستاره را با منظومه شمسی محاسبه کند.
طوفانی از دنباله‌دارها که پس از این برخورد به سمت زمین حرکت می‌کنند، مشکلی جدی را به وجود خواهد آورد. همچنین تکه‌های سست یخ درون دنباله‌دارها ممکن است کابوس خطرناک‌تری نسبت به خود شهاب‌سنگ‌ها باشند. دانشمندان هنوز نمی‌دانند که چطور باید با مشکل احتمالی ای تکه یخ‌ها مواجه شوند.
ممکن است پیش‌بینی بابیلف در حد یک پیش‌بینی باقی بماند و زمین از این حادثه جان سالم به در ببرد. در این صورت دانشمندان زمان کافی دارند تا برای برخورد اجتناب‌ناپذیر کهکشان آندرومدا در 4.5 میلیارد سال دیگر راه‌حلی پیدا کنند.

ماجرا خیلی ساده شروع شد، خبرنگاری از واحد مرکزی خبر، به دانشگاه آمد، از حراست کتک خورد و کینه شتری گرفت...

روزها گذشت تا که خواجه نصیری ها به مناسبت بزرگداشت سالروز خواجه نصیرالدین طوسی، همایشی بین المللی برگزار کردند. در این همایش که بر خلاف سال گذشته، در نوبت صبح افراد کمی حضور داشتند، همان خبرنگار کینه شتری گرفته سر و کله اش پیدا شد و از سالن خالی فیلم برداری کرد. با مسئول برگزار کننده همایش هم بحثش شد و درگیری کوچکی هم پیش آمد. در آنجا او شفاهاً قول داد که فیلم را پخش نخواهد کرد. اما همان شب، تمام و کمال گزارشش را در شبه اخبار 20:30 دیدیم و دهان حیرت گشودیم...

آن روز از زبان مسئولی شنیدم که او (یعنی خبرنگار) گزارش را پخش نخواهد کرد، چراکه به ضرر نظام است و چیزی خلاف نظام در صدا و سیمای ملی پخش نخواهد شد، عمق حرف او را درک نکردم و خبرنگار هم گویا درک نکرده بود، تا اینکه امشب به طور اتفاقی در منزل دوستی، آن گزارش را در شبکه منافقین دیدم و تازه در آنجا بود که عمق فاجعه را فهمیدم که هر حرکتی کوچکی چه عکس العملی از سوی مخالفین و براندازان خواهد داشت. شبکه ای که در آن اذان را زنان می گویند!!

نکته جالب آن است که در بعد از ظهر همان روز آقای ولایتی مشاور رهبری، آقای پزشکیان، آقای کواکبیان و چندین تن دیگر از سران کشور به همراه دکتر بطحائی ریاست دانشگاه در ادامه مراسم و در حضور انبوه حضار از تمبر یادبود خواجه نصیر پرده برداری کرده و آن را به امضاء رساندند، اما خبرنگار کار خود را کرده بود و نیت واقعی اش چه بود را باید از خودش پرسید.

سوالی برایم مطرح شد؛ که اگر به این عمل و عکس العمل همیشگیِ بین رسانه ای بنگریم، آیا تنها ابزار و آلتی برای استفاده و سوءاستفاده طرفین نخواهیم بود؟

و از سویی دیگر به حرف آقای مهندس میرحسین موسوی رجوع می کنم که گفتند منافقین گروهکی مرده اند، با این حرکات آنها را زنده نکنید.

از سویی دیگر به این امر نیز واقفم که دولتهای نوپا یا پرسابقه گاهی برای القای حس آمادگی یا برانگیختگی اجتماعی تعدادی دشمن همیشه در نزدیکی خود نگه می دارند تا در ضمیر ناخودآگاه مردم خویش این تفکر را پدیدار کنند که: خطر در کمین است!

از این سخنان و زوایای مختلف قصد دارم تنها به این بسنده کنم که فعالین دانشجویی اگر مبنای و پایۀ نظری خود را بر هر یک از این صفحات لغزنده و در حال عبور بنا کنند، مسلماً از گزند حوادثی که برای آنان اتفاق خواهد افتاد در امان نخواهند بود.

اما امید است برای ما که خواستار حفظ نظام و ارزش های ایرانی آن هستیم، شاهد اتفاقات و بزک های رسانه ای که باعث سوء استفاده براندازان می شود، نباشیم.

رساله ای بر فردگرایی در اجتماع

انسان از پیدایش اولین تمدن به دنبال رعایت حقوق دیگران، برقراری عدالت و توجه به خواسته اکثریت بوده، اما اینکه از طبیعت وجودی خود و توجه به صدای درونِ خود در حوزه روابط اجتماعی فاصله زیادی گرفته، هشداری بس بزرگ در زمینه گم شدن حقیقت هر فرد و وجود اوست. منظور از این سخن آن است که از زمان اولین منازعات و مباحثات مستند تاریخی که در روم باستان با پیدایش بزرگانی چون ارسطو، سقراط و افلاطون رخ داده است، اکثراً به جنبه اجتماعی و بعد بیرونی هر فرد توجه کرده اند و آنچه که فراموش شده و عرفای شرقی بر آن اصرار می ورزیدند؛ فردگرایی و شنیدن آوای درون هر فرد بود.

در حال حاضر، روابط اجتماعی نه تنها در کشور ما - ایران - بلکه در تمامی کشورهای جهان، در بعد بیرونی مطالعه می شود و اگر هم در جایی نیاز مبرم به خواسته های عاطفی یا سلایق افراد باشد، با علم تعریف شده ای چون روانشناسی که خود نشأت گرفته از جامعه شناسی است! مورد بررسی قرار می گیرد.

سلیقه هر فرد که در جامعه ای زندگی می کند با بعضی از ساختارها و خواسته های عامۀ مردم هماهنگی ندارد و خواستار جامعه ای مطلوب و هماهنگ با سلایق خویش است، اما چنین امری محال و تنها زائیدۀ عقل بشر است. بارزترین مثال را می توان مدینه فاضله افلاطون نام برد که در آن اصول ساختاری جامعه را شرح می دهد و از نظر او در چنین جامعه ای دموکراسی یا مردم سالاری به شیوه نمادین رخ خواهد داد.

یا برای مثال حکومتی که اوشو (عارف هندی) از آن به عنوان راه رهایی و آگاهی بشر نام می برد را می توان از صادق ترین و گویاترین مثال ها برشمرد.

ساختن الگو برای افزایش بازده جامعه و برنامه ریزی برای رسیدن به آن امری نیکو و پسندیده است. اما اینکه چرا و چگونه جامعه ما به این سطح تفکر اکتفا کرده که تنها نظامی تک قطبی را بپذیرد، برایم جای بسی درنگ و تامل داردو

امیدها و آرزوهای آدمی نشأت گرفته از کاستی های او در زندگی روزمره اش است، اگر در جامعۀ ما کاستی شدیدی از آزادی بیان وجود دارد، این امر موجب به وجود آمدن امیال و آرزوهای فراوانی برای ساختن جامعه ای بر پایه آزادی می شود. اما اینکه نفس عمل چیست را کسی بدان توجه نمی کند. فردی آزادی را در برهنگی می بیند، دیگری کمبودی از لحاظ عاطفی در خود احساس می کند و حسادت را در وجود خود ریشه دوانیده و همگی این کمبودها را به گردن اجتماع می اندازد و طمع شیرین آزادی را در این می بیند که به هر نحو به این کمبودها پاسخ قانع کننده ای بدهد. دیگری نظری دیگر و دیگری...

با بالا بودن سطح فرهنگی جامعه (که امروزه در برخی جوامع اروپایی به طور تقریبی شاهد آن هستیم) مفاهیم دیگری از آزادی وجود دارد که در حیطه فردی هم تعریف شده است و خواسته اکثریت را پاسخ می دهد.

آقای کواکبیان که خاطرتون هست؟! نماینده مجلس اصلاح طلب که با حسین جان شریعتمداری به مناظره نشست و جواب های جالبی به آن تئورسین تقریباً زبان نفهم داد.
عکس مربوط به همایش بزرگداشت سالروز خواجه نصیرالدین طوسی است که آقای کواکبیان به دانشکده آمده بودند و روز مهندس را گرامی داشتند. البته مردی بسیار خوشرو و شوخ طبع بودند و در هنگام عکس انداختن از ما خواستند که کاری کنیم تا عکس سبز بیفتد! وقتی دلیل این کار را جویا شدیم، در پاسخ گفتند: آنها چه طور عکسی می اندازند که پرچم کشور ما آبی می افتد! ما هم عکسی بندازیم که اتفاقی سبز بیفتد!!!

آفتاب - حجت الاسلام حسنی به عنوان يکی از مفاخر ثبت ملی می‌شود

روابط عمومی میراث فرهنگی آذربایجان غربی اعلام کرد که در دیدار سرپرست، معاونان، مسئولین و مدیران میراث فرهنگی، صنایع دستی و گردشگری آذربایجان غربی با حجت الاسلام غلامرضا حسنی نماینده ولی فقیه در استان و امام جمعه ارومیه دیدار کردند.
در این دیدار اسدالله علیزاده باراندوزی سرپرست اداره کل میراث فرهنگی، صنایع دستی و گردشگری آذربایجان غربی با اشاره به راه‌اندازی موزه ملی مشاهیر و مفاخر کشور اعلام کرد که در صورت موافقت امام جمعه ارومیه نام وی به عنوان میراث زنده آذربایجان به همراه اسناد و تصاویری از سوابق علمی و مبارزاتی برای ثبت در این موزه ارسال شود.

اول که خبر را خواندم، فکر کردم شوخی است و جنبۀ طنز دارد، ولی منبع خبر را دیدم و از واقعی بودن این خبر کلی خندیدم!

بله! درست است! بعد از به ثبت رساندن ملی قله دماوند، این بار نوبت به آیت الله حسنی امام جمعه ارومیه رسید تا به علت خدمات ارزنده به امت اسلامی و ارائه راه های نوین در راستای مبارزه با فتنه و این حرفا به ثبت ملی برسند!

لازم به ذکر است که ایشان برای مبارزه با سران فتنه سبز (ملقب به فرقه موسوی!) ابتکاری جالب از خودشان صادر (صاتع، ساتع!) نمودند و با اسلحه کمری به نماز ایستادند و اشاره کردند که با همین اسلحه (کلت کمری کالیبر 35 تمام اتوماتیک!) سرِ سران فتنه را نشانه خواهند رفت!

ایشان همچنین در ابتکاری دیگر فرمودند جنازه های کسانی که در وقایع اخیر دستگیر و اعدام شده اند را بایستی در خیابان ها گرداند تا درس عبرتی باشد برای همگان که بدانند نظام اسلامی با کسی شوخی ندارد.

در سفر آقای حسنی به اردبیل هم ایشان نکته جالبی را بیان کردند و فرمودند به شهر قم رفته بودم و دیدم که 3 تا از دختران آستین شلوارهایشان را کوتاه کرده اند و فریاد می زنند: آزادی آزادی... بنده هم فکر کردم گویا باران باریده و پاچه های شلوارم را تا زانو بالا زدم (در حین سخنرانی هم پاچه شلوارشان را بالا زدند تا تصویر سازی بهتر صورت بگیرد!) بعد از آن، شیشه عینکم را تمیز کردم و دیدم نه خیر باران نمی بارد، آزادی می بارد!!!

همچنین در اوایل انقلاب اسلامی نیز، پسر ایشان که وابسته به فدائیان خلق بوده است با خبررسانی محل اقامتش به وسیله خود آقای حسنی به کمیته انقلاب شناسایی و اعدام می شود.

چگونه ماشین زمان بسازیم

از اینجا شروع می کنیم که فرض کنید از سیاره ای بسیار دور از زمین با ابزاری خاص به زمین نگاه می کنید. می دانیم که نور هم سرعت مشخصی دارد و برای دیدن هر جسمی نیازمندیم که از آن جسم به چشم ما نوری برسد، حال اگر فاصله خیلی زیاد باشد، زمانی هم طول می کشد تا این نور به چشم ما برسد، پس از سیاره ای که شما در آن هستید و بخواهید زمین را بنگرید، احتمالاً تصاویر جنگ کوروش با حاکم بابل و فتح آن را خواهید دید! پس در حالت کلی می توانیم بگوییم که زمانی کلی یا به اصطلاحی من در آوردی زمان جهانی برای کل هستی نمی توان در نظر گرفت
.

حالا یک نکته دیگر هم به این مبحث اضافه کنیم! جاذبه هم روی زمان تاثیر می گذارد یعنی اگر گرانش کم یا زیاد شود، زمان هم سریع و کند می شود. این موضوع را از آزمایشی ساده در آزمایشگاه بولدر کلورادو آمریکا استناد می کنم که در آن با دو ساعت کوانتومی بسیار دقیق و با اختلاف ارتفاعی بسیار جزئی (در حدود دهم میلی متر) این موضوع را اثبات کردند.

برای خالی نبودن عریضه! یک نکته دیگر هم اضافه کنیم! در فضا اجرامی به نام سیاه چاله داریم که ستاره هایی بسیار ثقیل هستند که سوختشان تمام شده است و همه چیز را به سمت خود جذب می کنند، حتی نور هم از این قاعده مستثنی نیست، یعنی اگر پرتوی نوری هم از نزدیکی آن رد شود به سمتش کشیده شده و در آن خمیده می گردد! (برای مثال در سیاه چاله ما می توانیم پشت سرمان را هم ببینیم! جلّ الخالق!)

وقتی هم در سیاه چاله همه چیز بلعیدنی باشد(!) یعنی گرانش در آنجا بسیار بسیار زیاد است، پس زمان در آنجا به صفر میل می کند.

حالا نکته اول و دوم را با هم تلفیق می کنیم، گرانش زمان را کند می کند (گزاره اول). در سیاه چاله گرانش بسیار زیاد است (گزاره دوم). در نتیجه ما اگر بتوانیم با سرعتی نزدیک به سرعت نور به مرکز یک سیاه چاله حرکت کنیم احتمالاً اتفاق های جالبی خواهد افتاد (!).

تا اینجا را در ذهن داشته باشید... به یک موضوع کوچک دیگر اشاره کنم.

یک پارادوکس یا تناقض جالب در نظریه مسافرت زمانی وجود دارد و آن هم این است که برای مثال:

فرض کنید شما بتوانید به گذشته دور سفر کنید و در آنجا پدربزرگ فعلی خود را قبل از اینکه با مادربزرگتان آشنا شود بکشید،‌ این به این معنی است که شما نمی‌توانید وجود داشته باشید. و طبعا نیز نمی‌توانستید به گذشته سفر کنید و پدربزرگتان را بکشید.

انگار کمی جالب شد!

فیزیک دانان برای این مسئله یک نظریه به نام دنیاهای موازی را مطرح کردند که در آن بی نهایت صفحه یا دنیا وجود دارد که ما می توانیم به هر یک از آنها سفر کنیم و با هم تداخل نمی کنند، یعنی سرنوشتی دیگر در جهانی دیگر را می توانیم برای خود رقم بزنیم!!!!!

خب، برگردیم سر موضوع اصلی، رسیدیم به سیاه چاله و این که داریم با سرعت نور به مرکزش حرکت می کنیم ( و در ماشین خود هم آهنگ Fuel از Metallica را گوش می کنیم!!)...

تنها مشکلی که این میان هست، چیزی نیست جز اینکه با افزایش سرعت، وزن نیز زیاد می شود، پس در سرعت مایل به نور وزن نیز بی نهایت خواهد شد، که بایستی برای این معضل راه حلی چاره کرد. ( از علما دعوت می کنم که در این مورد فکر کنند)

یک نظریه جالب در این زمینه وجود دارد که در حالت کلی می گوید در هر یک از این دنیاها و صفحات زمانی سیاهچاله هایی وجود دارد که مثل قیف هستند و اگر در حین نزدیک شدن دو صفحه یا دو دنیا با یکدیگر پای یک سیاهچاله هم در میان باشد، این قیف زمانی ما را به دنیایی دیگر می رساند و سر دیگر آن را سفید چاله نامیده اند.

اما باید خیلی خوش شانس باشیم که در دقیقاً در حین برخورد دو صفحه یا دو دنیا، یک سیاه چاله هم آن وسط باشد تا بتوانیم با سرعت نور از آن عبور کنیم. اما از این بشر دو پا هر چیزی که بگویید سر می زند دوستان!

اما اینکه آن سر قیف سر از کجا در خواهیم آورد مسلماً مشخص نیست! احتمالاً یا در زمان سفر خواهیم کرد، یا واقعاً دنیایی دیگر در بعدی دیگر و در ماهیتی دیگر وجود دارد که به آن می رویم.

نظریه جهان های موازی به طور ساده بیان می کند که:

اندیشه وجود یک خود دیگر نظیر آنچه که در بالا شرح آن رفت عجیب و غیر معقول به نظر می‌رسد، اما آنگونه که از قرائن بر می‌آید انگار مجبوریم آن را بپذیریم. زیرا مشاهدات نجومی از این اندیشه غیر مادی پشتیبانی می‌کنند. بنابر این پیش بینی ساده‌ترین و پر طرافدارترین الگوی کیهان شناسی که امروزه وجود دارد، این است که هر یک از ما یک جفت (همزاد) داریم که در کهکشانی که حدود 10²⁸⁰ متر دورتر از زمین قراردارد، زندگی می‌کنند.

این مسافت آنچنان زیاد است که بطور کامل خارج از هر گونه امکان بررسیهای نجومی است، اما این امر واقعیت وجود نسخه دوم ما را کمرنگ نمی‌کند. این مسافت بر اساس نظریه احتمالات مقدماتی برآورده شده و حتی فرضیات خیال پردازانه فیزیک نوین را نیز در بر نگرفته است.

دقیق‌ترین آزمایش نسبیت عام، بر روی میزتحریر انجام شد

با اندازه‌گیری تفاوت بسیار اندک دو ساعت کوانتومی با فاصله 0.1 میلی‌متر از یکدیگر، مشخص شد پیش‌بینی نظریه نسبیت عام درمورد کند شدن زمان در اثر میدان گرانشی، درست‌تر از آنی است که پیش از این تصور می‌شد.

مجید جویا: با اندازه‌گیری یک تفاوت بسیار اندک در دو ساعت کوانتومی، فیزیکدان‌ها ثابت کردند که یکی از پایه‌های نظریه گرانش آلبرت اینشتین محکم‌تر از آنی است که پیش از این تصور می‌شد.

این آزمایش، تازه‌ترین نمونه از سری آزمایش‌هایی است که دانشمندان برای موشکافی یکی از پیش‌بینی‌های اینشتین انجام داده‌اند، این‌که ساعت‌ها در میدان‌های جاذبه‌ای قوی‌تر، آهسته‌تر کار می‌کنند.

به گزارش نیچر، برای چندین دهه دانشمندان ساعت‌ها را در ارتفاعات بالاتری که جاذبه زمین در آنها کمتر است، قرار می‌دادند و تغییرات متعاقب آن را اندازه‌گیری می‌کردند. از یک ساعت در یک برج دانشگاه هاروارد در دهه 1960، تا ساعت‌هایی که در دهه 1970 در هواپیماها قرار می‌گرفتند، تا ساعتی که در سال 1980 در یک راکت قرار گرفت و هزاران کیلومتر دورتر از سطح زمین به فضا ارسال شد؛ دانشمندان هر چه تلاش کردند، نتوانستند نشان دهند که نظریه اینشتین اشتباه بوده است.

اکنون، گروهی که توسط هولگر مولر از دانشگاه برکلی کالیفرنیا هدایت می‌شوند، تاثیر جاذبه را بر تغییر زمان ده‌هزار بار دقیق‌تر از هر آزمایشی که تا پیش از این انجام شده بود، اندازه‌گیری کرده‌اند. آنها نشان دادند که تاثیر جاذبه بر زمان با دقت7 قسمت در میلیارد قابل پیش‌بینی است.

نکته جالب توجه این آزمایش در این بود که آنها این کار را تنها با استفاده از دو ساعت آزمایشگاهی انجام دادند که بیش‌از یک دهم میلی‌متر اختلاف ارتفاع نداشتند؛ و این یعنی انجام آزمایشی بر روی یک نظریه بسیار پیچیده با استفاده از مجموعه‌ای که در دنیای امروز آزمایش‌های بزرگ و پیچیده فیزیکی، بی‌اندازه ابتدایی به نظر می‌رسد.

«انجام آزمایش‌های بسیار دقیق روی میز آزمایشگاه چیزی نیست که تنها مربوط به گذشته باشد»، این عقیده مولر است. تیم تحقیقاتی وی نیز شامل آکیم پیترز از دانشگاه هومبولت برلین و استیون چو، شخص وزیر انرژی ایالات متحده بود.

ساعت اتمی، کاربردهای دیگری هم دارد

بسیاری از ساعت‌های اتمی از پالس‌های بی‌نهایت منظم اتم‌ها استفاده می‌کنند که بین حالت‌های تحریک شده انرژی تغییر حالت می‌دهند. ولی آزمایش مولر بر فرکانس بنیادین کوانتوم اتم سزیوم با انرژی حالت عدم تحریک اتم اتکا داشت. این فرکانس به‌قدری بزرگ است که فیزیکدان‌ها هیچ‌گاه گمان نمی‌کردند که روزی بتوان از آن به عنوان ساعت استفاده کرد. ولی یک تداخل‌سنج ویژه می‌تواند تفاوت بین دو ساعت این چنینی را که تحت تاثیر نیروهای متفاوت جاذبه قرار دارند، اندازه‌گیری کند.

یون یی، متخصص ساعت‌های اتمی از مرکز مشترک اخترفیزیک آزمایشگاهی در بولدر کلرادو می‌گوید:‌ «چیزی که در مورد کار آنها جالب توجه است، این است که آنها از کل اتم به عنوان یک ساعت استفاده می‌کنند».

مولر و گروهش، اتم‌های سزیوم را به یک قوس در طول یک فاصله خلا پرتاب کردند و آن‌ها را تا نزدیکی صفر مطلق سرد کردند. در میانه مسیر، فوتون‌هایی از یک لیزر اتم‌ها را به دو حالت متناوب مکانیک کوانتوم تقسیم کرد. در یکی از آن دو، یک اتم یک فوتون را جذب کرد و قوس حرکتی آن به میزان اندکی بالاتر رفت، و به این ترتیب از میزان جاذبه برای آن اندکی کاسته شد و زمان هم کمی سرعت گرفت. در دیگری اما، اتم در قوس پایینی ماند، جایی که جاذبه قوی‌تر بود و زمان هم اندکی آهسته‌تر بود. یک تفاوت فاز در فرکانس بنیادین این دو اتم، که توسط تداخل‌سنج اندازه‌گیری شد، نشان دهنده یک تفاوت اندک در زمان بود.

تله‌های لیزری

این آزمایش از یک تله لیزری اتم بهره می‌برد که استیون چو آن را اختراع کرد و برنده جایزه نوبل در سال 1997 / 1376 شد. داده‌ها برای تحقیق کنونی کوتاه زمانی بعد از آن گردآوری شدند، هنگامی که چو در حال استفاده از این مجموعه برای اندازه‌گیری یک ثابت متفاوت بود، شتاب جاذبه.

ولی مولر می‌گوید که در اکتبر 2008 / مهر 1387، گویی به او الهام شد که می‌توان از داده‌های مشابهی برای نشان دادن ثابت بودن تاثیر جاذبه بر زمان استفاده کرد. او ابتدا ای‌میلی برای چو فرستاد، و سپس ای‌میل دیگری برای مدیر آزمایشگاه ملی لاورنس برکلی در کالیفرنیا، که سه روز بعد به او پاسخ داد و از ایده وی استقبال کرد.

چو نیز در پاسخ به ای‌میل خبرنگار نیچر، گفت که او زمان کار بر روی تحقیق کنونی را در طول شب‌ها، آخر هفته‌ها و در جریان سفرهای هوایی به دست آورده بود (بعد از انجام 70 تا 80 ساعت کار هفتگی به عنوان وزیر انرژی! ایالات متحده)

نتایج این آزمایش می‌توانست یک روز کاربردهای عملی داشته باشد. اگر تاثیر جابجایی زمان جاذبه ثابت نباشد، آن‌گاه پژوهشگران شاید مجبور شوند در مورد میزان دقت ساعت‌های اتمی جدید که با ماهواره‌های سیستم موقعیت‌یاب جهانی به مدار زمین فرستاده می‌شوند، دوباره فکر کنند. ولی مولر نشان داد که این تاثیر به طور غیر عادی با نتایج آزمایش سازگاری دارد. او می‌گوید: «اکنون ما می‌دانیم که فیزیک درست است».

این آزمایش همچنین بر مجموعه ساعت اتمی در فضا (ACES) فشار وارد می‌آورد، آزمایشی که توسط سازمان فضایی اروپا در حال انجام است و قرار است که تا سال 2013 / 1392به ایستگاه فضایی بین المللی بپیوندد. تحقیق کنونی در عین حال اندازه‌گیری‌های کنونی ACES از تاثیر جابجایی زمانی جاذبه را تا سه رقم اعشار بهبود می‌بخشد.

کریستوف سالومون پژوهشگر ارشد ACESمی‌گوید که این ماموریت تقریبا 100 میلیون یورو هزینه در بر خواهد داشت، که هزینه پرتاب آن را نیز باید به آن اضافه کرد. در مقابل، به گفته مولر، آزمایش مولر بر روی میز آزمایشگاه، در مجموع چیزی کمتر از یک میلیون دلار هزینه داشته است. سالومون می‌گوید کهACES هنوز معتبر است چرا که دو آزمایش بنیادین دیگر را در زمینه فیزیک انجام خواهد داد، و همچنین به پژوهشگران کمک خواهد کرد تا هماهنگی ساعت‌های اتمی زمینی را نیز بهتر کنند.

کلیفورد ویل، ازفیزیکدانان دانشگاه واشینگتن در سنت لوئیز میسوری، می‌گوید که نتیجه آزمایش مولر پنجره‌ای را که اکنون برای نظریه‌های جایگزین در مورد جاذبه وجود دارد و برخی از نظریه پردازان در حال کار بر روی آنها هستند، باریک‌تر خواهد کرد.

ویل همچنین از این که چو وقتی برای همکاری با این تحقیق پیدا کرده بود، شگفت‌زده شده بود. او می‌گوید: «آخرین باری که یک عضو کابینه رئیس‌جمور، مقاله‌ای را در مجله نیچر در مورد فیزیک بنیادین منتشر کرده بود، چه زمانی بود؟».

This year, Android is everywhere, on handsets from HTC, Motorola, Sony Ericsson, and even Garmin-Asus. If this were the world of computers, Android would be in a similar position to Windows: Pretty much every manufacturer puts it on its machines.I actually never thought that a company will be better than Microsoft, but these days that I'm reading about Android, step by step I'm getting closer to this fact that Google is better!

رابطه بین باغ وحش مظفرالدین شاه و پلیس ضد شورش

در زمان مظفرالدین شاه قاجار باغ وحشی در تهران درست کرده بودند که بسیار مجلل بود، لیکن حیوانات باغ وحش از حیث خورد و خوراک در نهایت پریشانی و زحمت و مشقت بودند، چرا که بودجه خورد و خوراک آنها را ماموران باغ می خوردند و به حیوانات زبان بسته خوراک و غذایی ناچیز می رسید و اغلب شان از گرسنگی تلف می شدند. روزی مظفرالدین شاه تصمیم گرفت به تماشای باغ وحش برود. به رئیس باغ خبر دادند که شاه فلان ساعت تشریف فرما می شوند.

در باغ شیری بود که از مازندان برای شاه هدیه آورده بودند. شاه به شیر نام برده علاقۀ زیادی داشت و همیشه از رئیس باغ حال شیر را جویا می شد و امر می فرمود که در غذا و خوراک آن شیر مواظبت کامل به عمل آید. از قضا آن شیر چند روز قبل از تشریف فرمایی شاه به باغ وحش مرده بود. رئیس باغ موقعی که شنید شاه برای بازدید از باغ وحش می آید مضطرب شد که اگر شاه بیاید و شیر را نبیند حتماً مورد عتاب و خطاب و خشم و غضب شاه قرار خواهد گرفت. از این جهت فوراً دستور داد یک نفر از عمله های باغ داخل پوست شیر شده، در لانۀ شیر در گوشه ای بنشیند و وقتی شاه به طرف او آمد قدری سرش را تکان بدهد که او تصور کند شیر زنده است.

شاه در ساعت معین تشریف فرما شد و شیر محبوب خود را هم دید و بعد بدون این که ملتفت قضیه شود گردشی کرد و از باغ خارج شد. از قضا در این لحظه یکی از پلنگان از لانه خود خارج شده بود و یکسره به سمت شیر می آمد. عمله ای که توی پوست شیر رفته بود موقعی که دید پلنگ به طرف او می آید خیلی هراسان شد و بسیار ترسید که مبادا پلنگ به روی او بپرد. می خواست فریاد بزند و فرار کند، ولی چون به زنجیرش بسته بودند چاره ای جز قرار گرفتن در سر جایش نداشت. در این ضمن پلنگ به او نزدیک شده، یواشکی گفت: «آهای کربلایی محمد! تویی؟ چند گرفتی داخل پوست شیر شدی؟!»

پ.ن: برای احترام به شعور خواننده از نتیجه گیری صرف نظر می شود، خودتان زحمتش را بکشید و تشابهات لازم را پیدا کنید!

پ.ن: مردم از اول می دونستند که کربلایی محمد توی لباس شیر رفته!

پدر ، دوست دخترم حامله است

پدردر حال رد شدن از کنار اتاق خواب پسرش بود، با تعجب دید که تخت خواب کاملاً مرتب و همه چیز جمع و جور شده. یک پاکت هم به روی بالش گذاشته شده و روش نوشته بود «پدر». با بدترین پیش داوری های ذهنی پاکت رو باز کرد و با دستان لرزان نامه رو خوند :

پدر عزیزم،

با اندوه و افسوس فراوان برایت می نویسم. من مجبور بودم با دوستدختر جدیدم فرار کنم، چون می خواستم جلوی یک رویارویی با مادر و تو رو بگیرم. من احساسات واقعی رو با stacy پیدا کردم، او واقعاً معرکه است، اما می دونستم که تو اون رو نخواهی پذیرفت، به خاطر تیزبینی هاش، خالکوبی هاش ، لباسهای تنگ موتور سواریش و به خاطر اینکه سنش از من خیلی بیشتره. اما فقط احساسات نیست، پدر. اون حامله است. stacy به من گفت ما می تونیم شاد و خوشبخت بشیم. اون یک تریلی توی جنگل داره و کُلی هیزم برای تمام زمستون. ما یک رؤیای مشترک داریم برای داشتن تعداد زیادی بچه. stacy چشمان من رو به روی حقیقت باز کرد که ماریجوانا واقعاً به کسی صدمه نمی زنه. ما اون رو برای خودمون می کاریم، و برای تجارت با کمک آدمای دیگه ای که توی مزرعه هستن، برای تمام کوکائینها و اکستازیهایی که می خوایم. در ضمن، دعا می کنیم که علم بتونه درمانی برای ایدز پیدا کنه، و stacy بهتر بشه. اون لیاقتش رو داره. نگران نباش پدر، من 15 سالمه، و می دونم چطور از خودم مراقبت کنم. یک روز، مطمئنم که برای دیدارتون بر می گردیم، اونوقت تو می تونی نوه های زیادت رو ببینی.

جنبش دانشجويى - در كشور ما تاريخ بسيار جالبى دارد. اين را از اين جهت می‌گويم و رويش تكيه ميكنم كه اين حركت بايد ادامه پيدا كند و اين چيزى نيست كه بتواند متوقف بشود؛ چون كشور در شرائطى است و نظام جمهورى اسلامى، ساخت و ويژگى‌ها و مختصاتى دارد كه حتماً جنبش دانشجوئى در كنارش بايستى حضور داشته باشد. اين جنبش دانشجوئى در كشور ما در تاريخِ ثبت شده و شناخته شده‌ى خود، هميشه ضد استكبار، ضد سلطه، ضد استبداد، ضد اختناق و بشدت عدالتخواه بوده است. اين مميزات جنبش دانشجوئى ما از روز اول است تا امروز. اگر كسى مدعى جنبش دانشجوئى باشد، اما اين مميزات را نداشته باشد، صادق نيست. دست جنبش دانشجوئى نميتواند در دست كسانى باشد كه در فلسطين قتل عام ميكنند، در عراق جنايت ميكنند، در افغانستان مردم را از دم تيغ ميگذرانند؛ اين جنبش دانشجوئى نيست. جنبش دانشجوئى خصلت و خاصيتش در كشور ما لااقل اينجور است - شايد در خيلى از كشورهاى ديگر هم باشد - كه ضد استكبارى، ضد سلطه، ضد ديكتاتورى و طرفدار عدالت است. شروع اين حركت يا مقطع شناخته شده‌ى اين حركت، همين 16 آذر است. - منبع خامنه ای دات آی آر

درد و دل - بخش دوم

حوادث پس از انتخابات را می توان به کلی از جنبه ای دیگر نیز نگریست، همان طور که دلیل جنگ 8 ساله کشور با رژیم بعث و جنگ عراق و کویت را می توان از زاویه ای کاملاً متفاوت و حیرت آور نگاه کرد و این را نیز نباید از یاد برد که حقیقت هیچ یک از این دو نگاه به طور مطلق نیست و بر این امر واقفم که حقیقت نیز همچون تمامی معلول های دیگر برای ما آدمیان امری نسبی است.
فعالیت های خویش را در زمینه جنبش دانشجویی بیان می کنم تا جای شبهه ای وجود نداشته باشد، با برخورد امنیتی در دانشگاه ها مخالفم و تشکیل چنین فضایی را عامل برون گرایی قشر دانشجو از داخل این محیط فرهنگی و پیوستن آنها به جریانات دیگر که می توانند گهگاه خطرآفرین نیز باشند می دانم، شاید یکی از عوامل اصلی پیوستن یا حضور دانشجویان در صف مخالفان دولت نیز همین دلیل باشد.
نشست هایی که در قالب مفاهیمی چون سکولاریته و حکومت در دانشگاه مطرح می شد می توانست بسیار روشنگرانه باشد و این مسئولین دانشگاه هستند که بایستی خواهان تشکیل چنین جلساتی در محیط دانشگاه باشند تا پالایش ذهن دانشجو در درون این مکان صورت پذیرد.
از سویی دیگر شدائدی که بر جامعه در این دوران احمال شد، از سوی حکومت پذیرفته نشد و تا کنون نیز نشده است، کشته ها و زخمی های فراوانی در این حوادث بر جای ماند که قلب ملت را جریحه دار نمود و مقامات جزء نیز پوزشی شنیده نشد.
فراموش کردن این موضوع که قشر عظیم این کشور جوانان هستند و با طرح هایی چون سهمیه بندی کارشناسی ارشد برای مزدوجین نه تنها به این قشر کمکی نمی شود بلکه نارضایتی بیشتر را حادث می گردد.
امیدوارم تا حدی توانسته باشم از آنچه به آن می اندیشم و هستم سخن بگویم، هر چند که این داستان حکایت یک عمر زندگی در جامعه ای است که اکنون اوضاع چندان مطلوبی ندارد.

سلام دوستان، هم کلاسی ها و انسان های گرامی

عده ای که معمولا از آنها به نیکی یاد نمی شود، بنده را به علت مطالبی که نوشته ام مورد بازخواست قرار دادند و به نوعی تهدید کردند که دیگر قلم را زمین بگذارم و در این فضای غبار آلود همانند عده ای چشمان خویش را به روی حقایق بسته و از آنها سخن نگویم.

این متن را به 2 جهت می نویسم: 1 آنکه بنده لازم می دانم تا موضع سیاسی خود را صریح و واضح بیان کنم تا از تهمت ها و پرونده سازی هایی که برایم شده است خود را مبرا بدانم و 2 بیان سخنانی که احساس می کنم در خلال مطالبی که منتشر کرده ام ناگفته مانده است.

انتخابات اخیر را به چند جهت نقطه حساسی از تاریخ این کشور می دانم، یک آنکه اوج برخورد دو موج افراط گرای راست و اسلام گرایان اصلاح طلب بود که با پیوستن سایر پیروان عقاید دیگر به جناح چپ به طلاقی این دو موج کمک کرده و نقطۀ عطفی درتاریخ سیاسی رقم زدند.

دوم آنکه اندیشه انقلاب اسلامی، نیاز به انقلابی داشت چرا که از خیلی جهات نسبت به اندیشه ها و فلسفه های حاضر در دنیا عقب مانده است و کسی نبود تا به آن حیاتی دوباره ببخشد، افرادی هم که نظریه پردازی کرده و سنگ بنای این نظام را نهادند، اوایل انقلاب ترور شده و جای آنها را یا کسی نتوانست پر کند، یا بعد از مدتی شخص جانشین مواضع سیاسی خود را تغییر داد.

سوم آنکه انقلاب عصر فناوری اطلاعات در این برهه از تاریخ ما نقش خود را به خوبی نشان داد، و همگان دانستند که با خفقان و سرکوب صدای مخالف نمی توان از رسیدن صدای دگراندیش به گوش عوام جلوگیری نمود.

چهارم آنکه برنامه هایی که از چندین سال پیش برای رسیدن به این نقطه چیده شده بود نیز جای بسی تأمل دارد و بایستی به آن از تمامی جوانب نگریست.

مرتضی نبوی مدیر مسئول روزنامه رسالت و عباس سلیمی نمین مدیر دفتر مطالعات و تدوین تاریخ ایران در سیما حضور پیدا کرده و به بحث درباره وقایع اخیر در کشور پرداختند.

به گزارش عصر ایران، در برنامه زنده تلویزیونی«رو به فردا» که سه‌شنبه شب از شبکه 3 سیما پخش شد، هنگامی که مجری برنامه درباره موضوع دستگیری سران مخالفان دولت (موسوی و کروبی) پرسش کرد، بحث داغی بین نبوی و سلیمی نمین در گرفت.

مهندس نبوی در پاسخ به این سوال با یادآوری راهپیمایی روز چهارشنبه 9 دی در حمایت از نظام و در اعتراض به هتک حرمت عده‌ای در روز عاشورا، گفت که قاطبه مردم با حضور در آن راهپیمایی خواستار دستگیری و مجازات آنچه که «سران فتنه» خواند، شده‌اند.

اما در این هنگام سلیمی نمین از نبوی پرسید: «شما این استنباط را از کجای مردم در آورده‌اید؟» سلیمی نمین در مخالفت با دستگیری موسوی و کروبی اشاره کرد که حوادث روز عاشورا با بیانیه میرحسین موسوی مرتبط نبوده و کنترل جریان حتی از دست موسوی هم خارج شده است.

سلیمی نمین همچنین در مخالفت با دستگیری موسوی ضمن توصیف موسوی و کروبی به «سرمایه‌های نظام» گفت: دستگیری «نخبگان به خطا رفته» راه چاره نیست و ممکن است به التهابات و فضای احساسی در جامعه دامن زده و طیف‌های حامی آنها را بار دیگر به خیابان‌ها بکشاند.

سلیمی نمین با اشاره به اینکه عده‌ای در کشور نمی‌خواهند با تقویت «بصیرت» مردم موضوع حل شود و غبارهای فضای سیاسی فروکش کند، از صداوسیما نیز به دلیل دعوت از برخی از عناصر تندرو به برنامه‌های تلویزیونی در روزهای گذشته و دامن زدن به بحث‌های تندروانه درباره دستگیری و مجازات رهبران معترضان انتقاد کرد.

در این حال بارها از سوی مجری برنامه اعلام شد که وقت برنامه تمام شده، اما سلیمی نمین از مجری خواست تا وقت بیشتری برای بحث در این باره به این برنامه زنده تلویزیونی اختصاص داده شود.

نقطه اختلاف سلیمی و نبوی در این برنامه حول موضوع دستگیری موسوی و کروبی بود و نبوی با اشاره به بیانیه میرحسین موسوی پس از اتفاقات روز عاشورا گفت که او در این بیانیه نه تنها از اقدامات ساختارشکنانه عده‌ای از معترضان در روز عاشورا تبری نجسته، بلکه تلویحا آنها را تایید نیز کرده است.

نبوی افزود که صبر نظام حدی دارد و نباید اجازه داد تا سران فتنه با اقدامات خود فضای جامعه را ملتهب کرده و در مقابل نظام و ولایت فقیه صف آرایی کنند.

اما سلیمی نمین با اشاره به اینکه موسوی و کروبی دشمن نیستند و باید به مردم بصیرت داد تا دشمن اصلی را که از نظر او «آمریکا و صهیونیسم» هستند، بشناسند از موسوی و کروبی با عنوان «نخبه‌های خطاکار یا به انحراف رفته یا قدرت طلب» نام برد.

اما نبوی اشاره کرد که اقدامات موسوی و کروبی پس از انتخابات زمینه را برای دشمنی صهیونیسم و آمریکا مهیا کرده و از این رو مردم در راهپیمایی روز 9 دی ماه خواستار دستگیری و مجازات سران داخلی فتنه هستند و منظور مردم از مجازات سران فتنه، سران داخلی این جریان است.

با این حال سلیمی نمین با پافشاری بر نظر خود اعلام کرد که راه چاره تقویت بصیرت مردم و انزوای این نخبگان خطاکار است، نه دستگیری و مجازات آنها.

سلیمی با این وجود افزود که در 7 ماه گذشته کاسته شدن تدریجی از جمعیت معترضان خیابانی ناشی از همین تقویت بصیرت مردم است و هشدار داد که نباید با میدان داری عده‌ای تندرو و انجام اقدامات تندروانه و تحریک کننده بار دیگر بر لشگر معترضان خیابانی افزود.

نقطه داغ بحث از آنجایی شروع شد که نبوی در اظهاراتی گفت که موضوع اعتراضات تقریبا فیصله یافته و نظام موفق شده است که این فتنه اخیر را بخواباند، اما سلیمی نمین در مخالفت با این نظر گفت که هنوز موضوع پایان نیافته است.

گفتنی است، معترضان به نتایج انتخابات ریاست جمهوری 88 همچنان از صداوسیما به دلیل دعوت نكردن از چهره‌های اصلاح طلب و مخالف دولت برای حضور در برنامه‌های تلویزیونی و ارایه برنامه‌های یکطرفه و یکجانبه از سوی صداوسیما، انتقاد می‌کنند.

اگر در تهران زندگی می کنید، احتمالاً بارها کلمه بزرگترین پروژه مدیریت شهری در کشور به گوشتان خورده باشد.

بله، تونل توحید بزرگترین پروژه مدیریت شهری در کشور است، اما چرا اینقدر تاسیس آن به تاخیر افتاده است؟

حرکت جالبی که جناب قالیباف زدند هنوز برای من تعجب آور است! روزی حین عبور از مسیر همیشگی ام که اتوبان نواب است، بنرهایی دیدیم با این عنوان که:

تونل توحید را شما افتتاح کنید.

و بالای آن نوشته بود در عید سعید غدیر خم

ما همه تعجب کردیم که چگونه با این همه قسمت نیمه تمام تا یک هفته این کار پایان می پذیرد و همین طور هم شد و کار به پایان نرسید، و حرکت جالب جناب قالیباف در اینجا بود که بنرهای حاشیه اتوبان را تغییر کاربری دادند و عید سعید غدیر خم آن ناپدید شد!

امروز مطلبی در ایسنا دیدم که با آقای دانشجو مصاحبه کردند و ایشان گفتند تا یک ماه و نیم دیگر یعنی بعد از ماه صفر، این پروژه تمام نخواهد شد و همچنین گفتند به دنبال مناسبتی برای افتتاح آن هستیم.

آیا قالیباف می تواند برای جنبۀ تبلیغاتی شخصیت سیاسی خودش این پروژه را در مرحله 99% ناتمام نگه داشته تا افتتاح آن را با بمب های خبرهای برای خودش همراه کند؟

سلام
با توجه به نزدیک شدن به ایام اصلی عزاداری حضرت امام حسین (ع) در اینترنت به دنبال متنی انگلیسی برای معرفی این امام مظلوم به یکی از دوستان خود بودم که با جستجوی نام عاشورا به عکس هایی مانند عکس های زیر برخوردم:

سوالی برایم مطرح شد و اینکه چگونه می توان این افراط و تفریط را جایگزین رفتاری منطقی و اندیشمندانه نمود؟

با سرکوب این گونه ناهنجاری ها نمی توان این گونه مسائل را پاسخگو بود، بایستی به دنبال تغییر نگرش و اصلاح در رفتار مذهبی جامعه بود که این رفتار مذهبی جایگزین یا به تعبیری فراموش شده را کدام مرجع بایستی رواج دهد؟

هدف از عزاداری ثار الله یادآوری پیام قیام عاشورا بود و اشک مسلمان نیز در این ایام تنها به دلیل مصیبتی است که بر خاندان پاک خاتم رسل وارد شده است.

در رادیو شنیدم که کتابی درباره قمه زنی و تاریخچه آن منتشر شده است، به دوستانی که هنوز در محل سکونت خود شاهد اینگونه رفتارهای نابهنجار هستند، پیشنهاد می کنم با بیان حقیقت پیام عاشورا و اطلاع رسانی مناسب به مردم از این حرکت های خشونت آمیز و دور از شان انسانی جلوگیری نمایند.

از طرفی افراد سودجو که تنها برای پاسخ گفتن به امیال و خواسته های نفسانی خود به این گونه مراسم ها قدم می گذارند نیز بایستی با تدبیری، به مسیر اصلی سوگواری رهنمون شوند، گویا می توان از راهنمایی مراجع و روحانیون در این باره بهره جست اما خبررسانی مناسب در این زمینه تا چه حد انجام شده است؟

امیدوارم روزی شاهد اعتدال در رفتارهای مذهبی جامعه باشیم تا الگوی مناسبی برای سایر جوامع بشری به حساب آییم.

سلام دوستان،
در بخش اول به این موضوع پرداختیم که دانشگاه مادر که در تهران وجود دارند، هر یک از چندین سال قبل مرکز رشد خود را راه اندازی نموده اند، اما دانشگاه صنعتی خواجه نصیرالدین طوسی از غافله عقب مانده است.
طبق مصوبات وزارت علوم و تحقیقات جمهوری اسلامی، برای راه اندازی مرکز رشد نیاز به حداقل هایی هست که یکی از آنها اختصاص فضای آموزشی جهت تخصیص به دانشجویانی است که تمایل به فعالیت در مرکز رشد دارند....
اساساً فلسفه مرکز رشد بر اساس مشارکت نهاد دانشگاه با قشر دانشجو به منظور ارتباط علم و صنعت است که در غالب فعالیت های گوناگون تعریف می شود.
به منظور تجمیع فضای آموزشی خالی جهت تخصیص به مرکز رشد، طوماری تهیه کردیم و در اختیار کلیه دانشجویان دانشگاه قرار دادیم که از این میان حدود 200 نفر از دانشجویان با این طرح موافقت کرده و طومار را امضا نمودند.
این طومار درخواستی از مدیریت دانشکده مکانیک به منظور تخصیص سالنی 600 متری در طبقه منهادی دو آن دانشکده به مرکز رشد جهت راه اندازی اولیه این مرکز است...

این برنامه که به همت دوست عزیزم علی و بچه های اندیشگاه خواجه نصیر برگزار شده بود
طبق رسم همیشگی برای کودکان بی سرپرست بود و خدا رو شکر به همه بچه خوش گذشت و سعی کردیم یک روز از این حقیقت تلخ که پدر و مادرشون یک روز آنها رو تنها گذاشتند فاصله بگیرند و در کنار ما با هم خوش بگذرونیم... ایشالا که همیشه سایه پدر و مادر بالای سر همه باشه... نعمت بزرگیه که بعضی وقت ها ما فراموش می کنیم و پدر و مادر رو از خودمون می رنجونیم.

بازدید از ایران خودرو

بازدید با یک ساعت تاخیر شروع شد، از سه سالن ایران خودرو بازدید انجام شد و افراد حاضر 23 نفر بودند. در هر بخش مسئول مربوطه به ارائه توضیحات پرداخت. سالن اول که مربوط به ورق و پرس بود دارای خطوط تمام مکانیزه با سنسورهای بسیار دقیق برای اندازه گیری در مقیاس صدم میلیمتر بودند. از سال 1380 که سالن افتتاح شده بود رتبه 19 ام در دنیا را به خود اختصاص داده بود و سال گذشته به مقام 6 دنیا با آمار 300 قطعه در ساعت که امری بسیار استراتژیک برای گسترش ایران خودرو محسوب می شود. این سالن رتبه اول در رعایت الگوی 5 سین را نیز به خود اختصاص داده است . تابلوهای کایزن بورد در تمام سالن ها موجود بود. سالن بعدی سالن جوشکاری بود، دستگاه سی ان سی موجود در این سالن به صورت قفسه ای بود و نسبت به بازدید از کارخانه مالیبل سایپا می توان سایپا را در این زمینه از ایران خودرو پیشرفته تر دانست. چرا که دقت اندازه گیری سی ان سی کارخانه مالیبل سایپا بیشتر بوده است. در سالن آخر نیز که بازدید شد، سیستم مونتاژ ایران خودرو را مشاهده کردیم، در این سالن بنا به خواسته و سفارش مشتری آپشن های مورد نظر را نصب کرده و در انتها نیز خودرو با تایید برگ فنی به انبار انتقال داده می شود. نکات قابل توجه در این بازدید می توان به مدیریت بازدید که دارای نظم و پروسه ای مشخص بود اشاره کرد و همچنین خطوط انتقال هوایی هر سالن را به سالن کناری خود متصل می کرد. دیگر نکته حائز اهمیت گسترش ایران خودرو تا راه آهن بود که هزینه های ترانزیت محصولات این شرکت را بسیار کاهش می دهد. الگوی 5 سین به طور نسبی در تمامی سالن ها رعایت می شود اما از میزان آشنایی تکنسین های مستقر در سالن از این الگو متاسفانه اطلاعاتی در دست نیست.

Engineering economy, the analysis of the economic consequences of engineering decisions, was originated by A. M. Wellington in his The Economic Theory of Railway Location, published in 1887. For more information on Wellington, see A. M. Wellington. Engineering economy is now considered a part of the education of every engineer.

There are many bad ways to make decisions. Because of the uncertainties of the future, even a rational method of decision-making can sometimes result in bad choices. However, a bad result is almost guaranteed by a poor decision-making process. A fundamental principle is that choices can be made only among alternatives, and that only the differences between these alternatives are material. A course of action cannot usefully be compared only with itself. We hear every day enthusiasts for one course of action or another recommending their hobby on the basis of its peculiar beauty, with alternatives deprecated if considered at all. In any engineering decision, all reasonable alternatives should be discovered and fairly considered.

If the consequences of a course of action can be reduced to monetary terms, it is easy to compare alternatives on the basis of maximum return. Such considerations expressible in money may be called reducible. In terms of reducible considerations, the decision criterion is that of greatest return. Of course, this may not produce the best decision, since not all considerations can be reduced to money. These non-monetary considerations are called irreducible, and may often be of compelling importance. For example, a course of action may be illegal though profitable. While recognizing irreducible considerations, engineering economy usually ignores them in its objective recommendations, which concern monetary matters only. The expression of truly irreducible considerations in terms of money is usually inappropriate and misleading. The engineering economic analysis is only one consideration when making a decision.

Most decisions involve money flows at different times. The comparison of these flows can only be usefully made if they are reduced to some sort of equivalent amount at the same time, usually the present. The model for this comparison is furnished by the familiar concept of interest. If I have $1000, and do nothing with it, I will still have $1000 at any later time if nobody steals it. If I lend it at interest, I give the money in return for the promise to be repaid at a later date, with the addition of a certain amount of interest. This amount is generally expressed as a percentage, say 5% per annum. Then, the interest will be 5% of $1000, or $50, so I will receive $1050 a year from now. The person borrowing the money intends to use it in some way that will return more than $50 worth, perhaps only in personal satisfaction. This is particularly the case with consumer borrowing, which turns out to be a very profitable way for a financial institution to bleed a sucker dry.

Let P be the present value of the money, $1000, and F the future value. Then, after 1 year, F = P(1 + i), where i is the interest rate as a decimal fraction. In this case, F = P(1 + 0.05). Our deal may be for the borrower to retain the money, and to add the interest each year to the principal. After n years, then F = P(1 + i)n. The amount is said to be compounded annually, as interest is charged on the interest. Instead of years, any time period may be specified, say months. Then, after one year, F = P(1 + i')12, where i' is the interest per month.

It is usual to quote a nominal interest rate per year. If we compound monthly, then the annual nominal rate is i = 12i', where i' is the interest per month. For a 5% nominal rate, the monthly interest rate is i' = 5/12 = 0.42%, approximately. Now, (1 + .05/12)12 = 1.05117, so the interest for a year would be $51.17 instead of $50.00. The effective interest rate is 5.117% for 5% per annum compounded monthly. The nominal rate is only used to find the rate for other periods. It is so easy to turn a low nominal rate that attracts suckers into a high effective rate that lenders must now usually quote both. The effective rate is usually called the APR, the annual percentage rate.

Financial people actually do compound at finite intervals. Technical people might be uncomfortable with this, since it seems to them as if continuous compounding would be more logical. For continuous compounding, F = Peni. If i << 1, then this is approximately F = P(1 + i)n, the result of periodic compounding. The differential equation is dF/dn = iPeni = iF, showing that the growth (interest) is proportional to the amount (principal). In one time unit, F = Pei, so the effective interest rate is ei/100. For i = 0.05, this is 5.127%, which can be compared with 5.117% for monthly compounding. For the usual interest rates, the difference between monthly compounding and continuous compounding is immaterial.

A very common pattern of cash flow is the annuity, a payment or recipt of equal amounts of money A at equal intervals of time. This is actually a level annuity, meaning that the amounts are the same. We can find the final value of an annuity by multiplying each payment by the interest factor taking it to the final time (or, equivalently, to the initial time) and adding the results. It is conventional to consider the payment A to be made at the end of each interval. There is no payment at t = 0, and a payment of A at time t = n. The series can be summed explicitly, with the result F = (A/i)[(1 + i)n - 1], or A = F{i/[(1 + i)n - 1]}. When i << 1, the factor in braces becomes i/ni = 1/n. Then, F = (A/i)[ni] = nA, the sum of the payments, and A = F/n. For a nonzero interest rate, the payments are smaller, since the fund also earns interest. Dividing by (1 + i)n, the value F can be converted to a present value P. This is the value of receipts of equal amounts A for the life n of the annuity. One pays an amount P now for its equivalent in future annuity receipts.

If the interest factor (1 + i)n is much larger than 1, which can occur for either a high interest rate i or a large number of compounding periods n, then we see that P = A/i, approximately. If A is a regular cost that continues indefinitely, then A/i may be called the capitalized cost. It is the amount of money that will yield the cost A regularly when it attracts an interest i. It is easily calculated, and can be used to compare different investments on the basis of first cost (present value). It need not represent an actual fund. On the other hand, it may do so. If a fund is established to endow an annual $1000 scholarship, and the interest rate is 5%, then the capitalized cost is $1000/.05 = $20,000.

The formulas for a level annuity are so convenient that the end of year convention is often used. Costs may occur at any point in an interval, but little error is introduced when the interest rate is not too high if they are assumed to occur at the end of the year. Similarly, if the costs vary by small amounts, there will be little error if they are replaced by an average.

In a graded annuity, the payments or receipts differ by a fixed increment G. That is, we have amounts of A, A + G, A + 2G, ..., A + (n - 1)G at the ends of n periods. G may be negative as well as positive. We can consider A and G separately, adding the final results. The graded annuity then has the amounts 0, G, 2G, ..., (n - 1)G. Note that the payment at the end of the first period is 0. Since 1 + 2 + 3 + ... + n = n(n + 1)/2, the sum of these payments is n(n - 1)G/2, and the average payment is A = (n - 1)G/2. If the interest rate is not zero, the later payments have a smaller equivalent. The simplest way to handle this is to convert the graded annuity to a constant annuity, which depends on the interest rate. We find A = (G/i){1 - ni/[(1 + i)n - 1]}, which converts the graded annuity G to an equal series of payments A, including a payment at t = 1.

The expression for A seems to give the limit A = 0 when i becomes small, but this is incorrect. In this case we must expand to second order: (1 + i)n - 1 = ni + n(n - 1)i2/2 + ... . Then, A = (G/i){1 - 1/[1 + (n - 1)i/2]} = (G/i)[(n - 1)i/2] = (n - 1)G/2, which is the correct result. The factor {i/[(1 + i)n - 1]} may be recognized as the ratio A/F for an annuity of A for n periods. It can be evaluated by taking F = 1 and finding A.

The classic text of Grant and Ireson in the References assumes that interest tables will be used to perform calculations. However, since then much more convenient means of calculation have become available. The HP-48G pocket calculator, for example, does interest calculations with ease and accuracy. The Time Value of Money screen accepts values for n, i, P, A and F. It also allows the choice of payments at the end or beginning of a period, and for multiple payments per period. If you specify 12 payments per year, then n = 12 for compounding monthly. The HP-48 will solve for any one of the five quantities in terms of the other four, not merely evaluate a formula. In particular, it will solve for an interest rate i, which is very convenient. I certainly don't recommend doing engineering economy without a calculator.

To see how to use the HP-48, let us find the present value of an annuity of $1000 per year for 20 years, if the interest rate is 5%. Press → SOLVE, then ↑ (or ↓ 4 times) and OK (soft key F). Highlight a quantity to be changed, key in the value, and press ENTER. Set N = 20, %/yr = 5, PMT: 1000, P/YR = 1, FV = 0, END (the +/- key toggles this). Now highlight PV and press SOLVE (soft key F). The value -12,462.21 will appear in PV. The present value of this annuity is $12,462.21. The signs of the values distinguish payments and receipts. A negative A will reduce a positive P to a smaller F, perhaps zero, while a positive A will increase a zero P to a counterbalancing negative F in the future. The signs that appear may be disconcerting, but the HP-48 considers them rational. Always check a result for reasonableness.

If A = 0, we are using only F = P(1 + i)n. To find a future value, set P equal to the present value, and solve for F, which will appear as negative. To find a present value, set F equal to the future value, and solve for P, which will be negative. The difference in signs may be interpreted to show that one amount is a payment, the other a receipt. Which is which depends on whether one takes the viewpoint of the lender or the borrower.

I made a user-defined function on the HP-48 for finding the level annuity equivalent to a graded annuity. I called the function AG(i,n). It expects i and n on the stack, and is called by pressing VAR (unless this menu is already displayed) and then the soft key AG. After this function is evaluated, it is multiplied by the particular value of G. To create this function, enter 'AG(I,N)=1/i-1/((1+i)^N-1)', press ENTER, and then ←DEF. To remove a function like this, press →MEMORY and highlight the desired function. Then press NXT and then soft key PURGE to remove it. Or recall its name to the stack with 'AG and press ←PURGE.

It sometimes helps to construct a cash flow diagram for a problem. Time periods are marked off on the horizontal axis, while cash receipts are represented by upward arrows of scaled length, and cash disbursements by downward arrows. These diagrams can be related to the values entered into the HP-48, and the timing of the cash flows can be clearly presented.

Textbooks usually present a formidable array of six compound interest factors. If you examine them for a while, it becomes evident that they are only simple combinations of two factors, the compound amount factor (caf) F/P = (1 + i)n and the sinking-fund factor (sff) A/F = i/[(1 + i)n - 1]. All the rest are just reciprocals of these, or products of the two to convert between P and F. The values in the tables given by Grant and Ireson are easily computed by the HP-48, which can, therefore, completely replace them. On a four-function calculator, the caf can be found by repeated multiplication, using the memory (press * and MR repeatedly), and then the sff is easily calculated. The caf is conveniently stored in the memory for multiple uses when solving a problem. As friendly advice, it is not a good idea to perform any calculation on the HP-48 that you do not completely understand and you could not carry out longhand.

The general problem of engineering economy is rather simple. For each alternative we predict the expenses and receipts, then reduce them to the same epoch using P = F/(1 + i)n, where n can be positive or negative. The alternative that offers the most return, or is of lowest cost, for the same investment, is then selected. In this case, we may presume that the interest rate i is known. Alternatively, for each alternative we can determine a rate of return by solving for i, and choose the alternative offering the greatest rate of return, irreducible considerations being equal. We can also reduce all costs and benefits to their values at one time, and then take their ratio, the Benefit-Cost ratio. The alternative with the greatest benefit-cost ratio is then chosen. This method is often used for governmental decisions, since it is very easy to inflate the benefits by assigning high values to irreducibles. Let's now look at the various methods for deciding between alternatives on an economic basis.

Making an economic decision when all the cash flow is current is straightforward. If the irreducible considerations are equivalent, then the alternative with the lowest cost is selected. We may also confront differences in irreducibles with differences in cost and make a more subjective choice. This is done all the time in making purchases in a shop. Engineering decisions are usually more difficult, since the cash flows may occur at different times. Cash flows in the past are common to all alternatives, and so will not affect the choice between alternatives. These are often called sunk costs. Often, it is thought that having already spent a great deal of money on a certain bad idea means that it should be continued, no matter how disadvantageous it may be, to "avoid throwing away the investment." Actually, the investment is already thrown away. This is called "staying the course" in today's politics, which means pursuing a bad idea in spite of negative evidence, or "throwing good money after bad." The desirability of alternatives depends only on the differences between the alternatives in the future. The past is common to all alternatives. Cash flows in the future may occur at different times, and this will affect the relative attractiveness of alternatives.

Many economic alternatives begin with an investment at the present that will result in future receipts. Suppose that two alternatives each require a current investment of $1000. One investment will result in the receipt of $1276 in 5 years, while the other will result in the receipt of $1500 at the same time. Other things equal, we will, of course, choose the alternative yielding $1500. However, suppose the second alternative returns $1500 the end of 6 years instead of 5. Now, which is better? It is better to receive money sooner than later, and this recommends the $1276. It is better to receive more money than less, and this recommends the $1500. To make an objective decision, we may ask what interest rate on our $1000 would produce the stated outcomes. Using the HP-48G, we find that the $1276 is equivalent to 5.00%, while the $1500 is equivalent to 6.99%. The $1500 alternative is better on this basis, since it corresponds to a greater percentage return. No borrowing or lending of money is involved in this decision, though we talk of interest rates.

An alternative investment would be to lend the $1000 at the prevailing interest rate. If that rate were 5%, then this alternative would be just as good as the one offering $1276 in 5 years. It would also involve very little effort, and if the money were placed with a reputable bank, would be secure. Any attractive investment of mony would have to have a rate of return greater than the prevailing interest rate. The prevailing interest rate serves as a floor for acceptable rates of return. The interest rate at which an investment becomes attractive is, therefore, considerably higher than the prevailing interest rate. If the rate of return of an investment is greater than the prevailing interest rate, then we can borrow money to make the investment, and enjoy profit in addition to being able to pay off the loan.

Another way to analyze our choices is to compare the present worth of the alternatives. To do this, we reduce the future receipts to the present by choosing a discount rate. It is called discount because the present worth is always less than the future value, and the smaller as the time of the receipt is farther in the future. It is a measure of how much we prefer a quick return to a later return. If we choose 8%, then the receipt of $1276 after 5 years has a present worth of $868.42, while the $1500 after 6 years has a present value of $945.25. The second alternative is preferable, by $76.83, as we concluded from the rate of return.

If the discount rate is 12%, then the present values become $724.04 and $759.95. The difference is now only $35.91, but the second alternative is still preferred, though by a smaller amount. This demonstrates that selection on the basis of present worth gives the same result as rate of return unless the discount rate is unusually high. Note that in all these cases, the present worth is less than $1000, so it would not be economical to invest this amount to receive the proposed benefits.

A 5%, 10-year, $10,000 bond pays interest of $500 each year and its face value of $10,000 at the end of the 10th year. If the prevailing interest rate is 5%, then the present worth of the interest payments is $3,860.87 and of the principal amount $6,139.13. The sum of these is $10,000, which will be a fair price for the bond. If the prevailing interest rate were 3%, then the present worth of the interest payments would be $4,625, and of the principal $7,440.94, total $12,066.04. This would now be the price of the bond. On the other hand, at 7%, the value of the bond would be only $3,511.79 + $5,083.49 = $8,595.28. This shows how the value of a bond depends on the prevailing interest rate.

If the payments or receipts are irregular, each one may be converted to its equivalent value at a chosen time. With the HP-48G, this is no longer as arduous as it once was, and becomes a practical solution to many problems. A present value is easily converted to a finite or perpetual annuity, and vice versa.

We have illustrated how to compare alternatives on the basis of rate of return or on present worth. Alternatives of the same life can also be compared by equivalent uniform annual costs. To do this, simply convert present worth to a level annuity for the life of the investment. This is convenient for investments with long life, which can often be compared on the basis of the capitalized cost. The benefit to cost ratio can also be used. The "benefit" is the present worth of the receipts, and the "cost" is the present worth of the investment. At 5%, an investment of $1000 that returns $1500 in 5 years has a present worth of $1,175.29, and so the B/C ratio is 1.175. However, at 10%, the benefit is only $931.38, so the B/C ratio has fallen to 0.931. Whether the alternative is desirable or not depends on the interest rate.

Let's give another example of what we mean by rate of return on an investment. Consider the repayment of a debt of $20,000 that will become due in 10 years. One way to do this is to establish a sinking fund that will allow us to repay, or extinguish the debt when it becomes due. This is often called amortization. If there were no interest, then putting aside $20,000/10 = $2000 per year would suffice. However, if the interest rate is 10% per annum, we must set aside more than this. First of all, we must pay the interest on the principal of $20,000, which is $2000. We must also pay into the sinking fund. The annuity necessary to receive $20,000 in 10 years at 10% is $1255. The difference between 10 x $1255 = $12,550 and the future value of the fund is provided by the interest. The total payment will be $3255 per year, the sum of the annuity and the interest on the principal.

The payment in the preceding paragraph may be called the capital recovery annuity amount. There are two ways to calculate it on the HP-48. We may calculate the annuity part by setting P = 0, F = 20,000 and solving for A, which is $1255. Then we add Pi = $2000 to this amount. Alternatively, we may set P = 20,000, F = 0 and solve for A. This gives the $3255 directly. Incidentally, this shows that A/P = A/F + i.

If a loan is repaid by an annuity of equal amounts, one may consider that the payment is first applied to the interest due on the present value at the start of the period. The remainder of the payment reduces the balance owed. The "amortization" function of the HP-48 calculates the part of a payment that is applied to the interest, and the remaining part that is applied to retiring the principal. First, the annuity payment is calculated from the present value, interest rate and number of periods, with future value zero, just as we have done above. The AMOR function then calculates the interest, the amount applied to the principal, and the balance remaining to be paid. It can do this for a group of N payments. If N = 1, it is done payment by payment. One goes on to the next payment by pressing B→PV, which adjusts the present value, and then AMOR again. For example, if $100,000 is borrowed for 20 years at 5%, the annual payment to retire the debt is $8024.26. Of the first payment, $5000 is applied to the interest, leaving $3084.26 to reduce the principal. The balance is now $96,915.74. The interest for the next year will be $4845.79. Over the life of the loan, the total interest paid will be $60,484.20.

If the $20,000 in the paragraph before last is not a debt but an investment, suppose it yields an annual profit A. If the payback varies, we convert it to an equivalent annual amount A. If A = $3255, then this is the same amount that will pay back a $20,000 debt at an interest rate of 10%. This is the rate of return of the investment. If we make an investment, we forgo the income we would receive from competing investments. One of these alternatives is simply to loan the money at the current interest rate. Therefore, the current interest rate is a lower bound on acceptable rates of return. This is the reason why interest plays a part in engineering economy, and why acceptable rates of return are usually a good deal higher than the prevailing rate of interest. Indeed, any concern usually has places to put money that will always pay off better than some larger interest rate, such as 10% or 15%.

The HP-48 makes it very easy to find rate of return. If an investment of $P returns an equivalent annual profit of $A for N years, set the future value F = 0 and solve for the interest rate, which will be the rate of return. If the future value is given instead, set A = 0 and solve for the interest rate. These calculations used to be done by assuming interest rates and interpolating.

An example of a graded series is given in Examples 5-22 and 5-23 in Grant and Ireson. A piece of equipment costs $6000 and has a life of 6 years, with no salvage value. Its operating costs are $1500 the first year, increasing by $200 in each following year. The interest rate is assumed to be 12%. What is the present cost of buying and using the equipment for its 6-year life? The purchase cost is $6000, a present value. The operating costs are to be referred to the present. These are a level annuity of $1500 for six years, and a graded annuity with G = $200. Note that the graded annuity is $0 at the end of the first year, $200 at the end of the second year, and so on, so it agrees with the conventions we adopted above.

The present value of the level annuity is easily found with the HP-48. We have n = 6, i = 12, A = 1500 and F = $0. The annuity represents a charge of $6167.11 at the present time. For n = 6 and i = 12, the ratio A/F is found to be 0.123225. To find this, set F = 1 and solve for A. The equivalent flat annuity is given by A = (200/0.12)[1 - (6)(0.123225)] = $434.42. The present value of a flat annuity of this value is then $1786.08. The total present value of purchasing and using the equipment for 6 years is $6000 + $6167.11 + $1786.08 = $13,953.19. This value may now be compared with the cost of alternatives.

If the equipment had a salvage value of, say, $1000 after 6 years, we can find the present value of this benefit at 12%, which will be $506.69, reducing the cost to $13,446.50. This cost can be annuitized at $3270.53 per annum, perhaps for accounting purposes. Practically any problem in engineering economy can be solved by the methods illustrated here, after it has been properly analyzed and understood. It is dangerous to solve such problems by a rote procedure without full understanding of the value of money at different times. This especially includes computer programs where the assumptions made by the programmer may not be clear. Programmers have far too much time on their hands. Grant and Ireson give 25 examples in Chapter 5 that are easily and quickly solved with the HP-48G in an hour or little more. These examples will give you confidence in solving nearly any problem in engineering economy.

Care should be taken in considering depreciation "costs". These are not actual costs, but the accountant's way of allocating the first cost of a capital asset to different time periods when the asset has a long life. The book value of an asset is the difference between its cost and the accumulated depreciation. It has no relation to any real value of the asset. The depreciation account is a contra-asset account, an expense account that is used to determine profit or loss. No cash flow is involved, and it is not a fund for replacement of equipment. Since depreciation may affect income taxes, it can have an effect on investment decisions, but usually only a small one.

Grant and Ireson explain that many methods used to determine rate of return on an investment by considering book values are erroneous and misleading. These methods are popular among the financial crowd, however, since accounts are more familiar to them than engineering economy. By book values we mean the accounts that are used to determine profit and loss for an accounting period. Usually, a ratio between the profits for a year to the book value of the assets is taken as a rate of return. The result depends, of course, on the method of depreciation, and may not reflect the actual timing of payments. Only a proper consideration of the actual cash flows related to an investment by the methods of compound interest can provide a meaningful rate of return.

INTRODUCTION

WHY DO ENGINEERS NEED TO LEARN ABOUT ECONOMICS?

Ages ago, the most significant barriers to engineers were technological. The things that engineers wanted to do, they simply did not yet know how to do, or hadn't yet developed the tools to do. There are certainly many more challenges like this which face present-day engineers. However, we have reached the point in engineering where it is no longer possible, in most cases, simply to design and build things for the sake simply of designing and building them. Natural resources (from which we must build things) are becoming more scarce and more expensive. We are much more aware of negative side-effects of engineering innovations (such as air pollution from automobiles) than ever before.

For these reasons, engineers are tasked more and more to place their project ideas within the larger framework of the environment within a specific planet, country, or region. Engineers must ask themselves if a particular project will offer some net benefit to the people who will be affected by the project, after considering its inherent benefits, plus any negative side-effects (externalities), plus the cost of consuming natural resources, both in the price that must be paid for them and the realization that once they are used for that project, they will no longer be available for any other project(s).

Simply put, engineers must decide if the benefits of a project exceed its costs, and must make this comparison in a unified framework. The framework within which to make this comparison is the field of engineering economics, which strives to answer exactly these questions, and perhaps more. The Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) states that engineering "is the profession in which a knowledge of the mathematical and natural sciences gained by study, experience, and practice is applied with judgment to develop ways to utilize, economically, the materials and forces of nature for the benefit of mankind".1

It should be clear from this discussion that consideration of economic factors is as important as regard for the physical laws and science that determine what can be accomplished with engineering. The following figure shows how engineering is composed of physical and economic components:

Figure 1 shows how engineering is composed of physical and economic components.

Physical Environment : Engineers produce products and services depending on physical laws (e.g. Ohm's law; Newton's law).

Physical efficiency takes the form:

Economic Environment : Much less of a quantitative nature is known about economic environments -- this is due to economics being involved with the actions of people, and the structure of organizations.

Satisfaction of the physical and economic environments is linked through production and construction processes. Engineers need to manipulate systems to achieve a balance in attributes in both the physical and economic environments, and within the bounds of limited resources. Following are some examples where engineering economy plays a crucial role:

Choosing the best design for a high-efficiency gas furnace
Selecting the most suitable robot for a welding operation on an automotive assembly line
Making a recommendation about whether jet airplanes for an overnight delivery service should be purchased or leased
Considering the choice between reusable and disposable bottles for high-demand beverages

With items 1 and 2 in particular, note that coursework in engineering should provide sufficient means to determine a good design for a furnace, or a suitable robot for an assembly line, but it is the economic evaluation that allows the further definition of a best design or the most suitable robot.

In item 1 of the list above, what is meant by " high-efficiency"? There are two kinds of efficiency that engineers must be concerned with. The first is physical efficiency, which takes the form:

For the furnace, the system outputs might be measured in units of heat energy, and the inputs in units of electrical energy, and if these units are consistent, then physical efficiency is measured as a ratio between zero and one. Certain laws of physics (e.g., conservation of energy) dictate that the output from a system can never exceed the input to a system, if these are measured in consistent units. All a particular system can do is change from one form of energy (e.g. electrical) to another (e.g., heat). There are losses incurred along the way, due to electrical resistance, friction, etc., which always yield efficiencies less than one. In an automobile, for example, 10-15% of the energy supplied by the fuel might be consumed simply overcoming the internal friction of the engine. A perfectly efficient system would be the theoretically impossible Perpetual Motion Machine!

The other form of efficiency of interest to engineers is economic efficiency, which takes the form:

You might have heard economic efficiency referred to as "benefit-cost ratio". Both terms of this ratio are assumed to be of monetary units, such as dollars. In contrast to physical efficiency, economic efficiency can exceed unity, and in fact should, if a project is to be deemed economically feasible. The most difficult part of determining economic efficiency is accounting for all the factors which might be considered benefits or costs of a particular project, and converting these benefits or costs into a monetary equivalent. Consider for example a transportation construction project which promises to reduce everyone's travel time to work. How do we place a value on that travel time savings? This is one of the fundamental questions of engineering economics.

In the final evaluation of most ventures, economic efficiency takes precedence over physical efficiency because projects cannot be approved, regardless of their physical efficiency, if there is no conceived demand for them amongst the public, if they are economically infeasible, or if they do not constitute the "wisest" use of those resources which they require.

There are numerous examples of engineering systems that have physical design but little economic worth (i.e it may simply be too expensive !!). Consider a proposal to purify all of the water used by a large city by boiling it and collecting it again through condensation. This type of experiment is done in junior physical science labs every day, but at the scale required by a large city, is simply too costly.

ROLE OF UNCERTAINTY IN ENGINEERING

When conducting engineering economic analyses, it will be assumed at first, for simplicity, that benefits, costs, and physical quantities will be known with a high degree of confidence. This degree of confidence is sometimes called assumed certainty. In virtually all situations, however, there is some doubt as to the ultimate values of various quantities. Both risk and uncertainty in decision-making activities are caused by a lack of precise knowledge regarding future conditions, technological developments, synergies among funded projects, etc. Decisions under risk are decisions in which the analyst models the decision problem in terms of assumed possible future outcomes, or scenarios, whose probabilities of occurrence can be estimated. Of course, this type of analysis requires an understanding of the field of probability. Decisions under uncertainty, by contrast, are decision problems characterized by several unknown futures for which probabilities of occurrence cannot be estimated. Other less objective means exist for the analysis of such problems.

For the purposes of this brief tutorial, we cannot delve further into the analytical extensions required to accommodate risk or uncertainty in the decision process. We must recognize that these things exist, however, and be careful about reaching strong conclusions based on data which might be susceptible to these. Because engineering is concerned with actions to be taken in the future, an important part of the engineering process is improving the certainty of decisions with respect to satisfying the objectives of engineering applications.

THE ENGINEERING PROCESS

Engineering activities dealing with elements of the physical environment take place to meet human needs that arise in an economic setting. The engineering process employed from the time a particular need is recognized until it is satisfied may be divided into a number of phases:

Determination of Objectives

This step involves finding out what people need and want that can be supplied by engineering. People's wants may arise from logical considerations, emotional drives, or a combination of the two.

Identification of Strategic Factors

The factors that stand in the way of attaining objectives are known as limiting factors. Once the limiting factors have been identified, they are examined to locate strategic factors -- those factors which can be altered to remove limitations restricting the success of an undertaking. A woman who wants to empty the water from her swimming pool might be faced with the limiting factor that she only has a bucket to do the job with, and this would require far greater time and physical exertion than she has at her disposal. A strategic factor developed in response to this limitation would be the procurement of some sort of pumping device which could do the job much more quickly, with almost no physical effort on the part of the woman.

Determination of means (engineering proposals)

This step involves discovering what means exist to alter strategic factors in order to overcome limiting factors. In the previous example, one means was to buy (or rent) a pump. Of course, if the woman had a garden hose, she might have been able to siphon the water out of the pump. Evaluation of Engineering Proposals

It is usually possible to accomplish the same result with a variety of means. Once these means have been described fully, in the form of project proposals, economic analysis can be employed to determine which among them, if any, is the best means for solving the problem at hand.

Assistance in Decision Making

It is commonplace for the final decision-making responsibility to fall on the head(s) of someone other than the engineer(s). The person(s) so charged, however, may not be sufficiently knowledgeable about the technical aspects of a proposal to determine its relevant worth compared to other means. The engineer can help to bridge this gap.

ENGINEERING ECONOMIC STUDIES

The four key steps in planning an economic study are :

Creative Step : People with vision and initiative adopt the premise that better opportunities exist than are known to them. This leads to research, exploration, and investigation of potential opportunities.

Definition Step : System alternatives are synthesised with economic requirements and physical requirements, and enumerated with respect to inputs/outputs.

Conversion Step : The attributes of system alternatives are converted to a common measure so that systems can be compared.

Future cash flows are assigned to each alternative, consisting of the time-value of money.

Decision Step : Qualitative and quantitative inputs and outputs to/from each system form the basis for system comparison and decision making. Decisions among system alternatives should be made on the basis of their differences. For a small number of real world systems there will be complete knowledge. All facts/information and their relationships, judgements and predictive behavior become a certainty. For most systems, however, even after all of the data that can be bought to bear on it has been considered, some areas of uncertainty are likely to remain. If a decision must be made, these areas of uncertainty must be bridged by consideration of non-quantitative data/information, such as common sense, judgement and so forth.

FUNDAMENTAL ECONOMIC CONCEPTS

Economics deals with the behavior of people, and as such, economic concepts are usually qualitative in nature, and not universal in application.

UTILITY
Utility is the power of a good or service to satisfy human needs.

VALUE
Designates the worth that a person attaches to an object or service.
Is a measure or appraisal of utility in some medium of exchange.
Is not the same as cost or price.

CONSUMER AND PRODUCER GOODS
Consumer goods : Consumer goods are the goods and services that directly satisfy human wants. For example, TV, shoes, houses.

Producer goods : Producer goods are the goods and services that satisfy human wants indirectly as a part of the production or construction process. For example, factory equipment, industrial chemicals ands materials.

UTILITY OF GOODS
Consumer goods : Basic human needs of food, clothing and shelter. In commercial advertisements, emphasis is given to senses not reasoning. The utility in this case is considered objectively and/or subjectively.

Producer goods : The utility stems for their means to get to an end. The utility in this case is considered objectively.

ECONOMY OF EXCHANGE
Occurs when utilities are exchanged by two or more people.
It is possible because consumer utilities are evaluated subjectively.
Represents mutual benefit in exchange.
Persuasion in exchange. Salesperson.

ECONOMY OF ORGANIZATION

Through organizations, ends can be attained or attained more economically by:
Labor saving
Efficiency in manufacturing or capital use

CLASSIFICATION OF COST

A key objective in engineering applications is the satisfaction of human needs, which will nearly always imply a cost.

Economic analyses may be based on a number of cost classifications:
First (or Initial) Cost : Cost to get activity started such as property improvement, transportation, installation, and initial expenditures.

Operation and Maintenance Cost : They are experienced continually over the usefull life of the activity.

Fixed Cost : Fixed costs arise from making preparations for the future, and includes costs associated with ongoing activities throughout the operational life-time of that concern. Fixed costs are relatively constant; they are decoupled from the system input/output, for example.

Variable Cost : Variable costs are related to the level of operational activity (e.g. the cost of fuel for construction equipment will be a function of the number of days of use).

Incremental or Marginal Cost : Incremental (or marginal) cost is the additional expense that will be incurred from increased output in one or more system units (i.e. production increase). It is determined from the variable cost.

Sunk Cost : It cannot be recovered or altered by future actions. Usually this cost is not a part of engineering economic analysis.

Life-Cycle Cost : This is cost for the entire life-cycle of a product, and includes feasibility, design, construction, operation and disposal costs.

SUPPLY AND DEMAND (not covered)
Demand curve shows the number of units people are willing to buy and cost per unit (decreasing curve).
Supply curve shows the number of units that vendors will offer for sale and unit price (increasing curve).
The intersection defines the exchange price.
Elasticity of demand. Price changes and their effect on demand changes. It depends on whether the consumer product is a necessity or a luxury.
Law of diminishing return. A process can be improved at a rate with a diminishing return. Example: cost of inspection to reduce cost of repair and lost production.

INTEREST RATE

Interest is a rental amount charged by financial institutions for the use of money.
Called also the rate of capital growth, it is the rate of gain received from an investment.
It is expressed on an annual basis.
For the lender, it consists, for convenience, of (1) risk of loss, (2) administrative expenses, and (3) profit or pure gain.
For the borrower, it is the cost of using a capital for immediately meeting his or her needs.

TIME VALUE OF MONEY

The time-value of money is the relationship between interest and time. i.e.

Money has time-value because the purchasing power of a dollar changes with time.

EARNING POWER OF MONEY

The earning power of money represents funds borrowed for the prospect of gain.

Often these funds will be exchanges for goods, services, or production tools, which in turn can be employed to generate and economic gain.

PURCHASING POWER OF MONEY

The prices of goods and services can go upward or downward, and therefore, the purchasing power of money can change with time.
Price Reductions : Caused by increases in productivity and availability of goods.

Price Increases : Caused by government policies, price support schemes, and deficit financing.

CASH FLOW DIAGRAMS

Cash flow diagrams are a means of visualizing (and simplifying) the flow of receipts and disbursements (for the acquisition and operation of items in an enterprise).

The diagram convention is as follows:

Horizontal Axis : The horizontal axis is marked off in equal increments, one per period, up to the duration of the project.

Revenues : Revenues (or receipts) are represented by upward pointing arrows.

Disbursements : Disbursements (or payments) are represented by downward pointing arrows.

All disbursements and receipts (i.e. cash flows) are assumed to take place at the end of the year in which they occur. This is known as the "end-of-year" convention.

Arrow lengths are approximately proportional to the magnitude of the cash flow.

Expenses incurred before time = 0 are sunk costs, and are not relevant to the problem.

Since there are two parties to every transaction, it is important to not that cash flow directions in cash flow diagrams depend upon the point of view taken.

Figure 3 shows cash flow diagrams for a transaction spanning five years. The transaction begins with a $1000.00 loan. For years two, three and four, the borrower pays the lender $120.00 interest. At year five, the borrower pays the lender $120.00 interest plus the $1000.00 principal.

Cash Flow over Time : Upward arrow means positive flow, downward arrow means negative flow. There are two cash flows to each problem (borrower and lender flows).

Net Cash Flow : The arithmetic sum of receipts (+) and disbursements (-) that occur at the same point in time.

INTEREST FORMULAE

Interest formulae play a central role in the economic evaluation of engineering alternatives.

TYPES OF INTEREST
Simple Interest : I = Pni.
P = Principal
i = Interest rate
n = Number of years (or periods)
I = Interestt.

Interest is due at the end of the time period. For fractions of a time period, multiply the interest by the fraction.

Example : Suppose that $50,000 is borrowed at a simple interest rate of 8% per annum. At the end of two years the interest owed would be:

Compound Interest : The interest of the interest.

Nominal interest rate : is expressed on an annual basis. Financial institutions refer to this rate as annual percentage rate (APR).

Effective interest rate : is an interest rate that is compounded using a time period less than a year. The nominal interest rate in this case is the effective rate times the number of compounding periods in a year. Then, it is referred to as nominal rate compounded at the period less than a year.

Example : If the effective rate is 1% per month, it follows that the nominal rate is 12% compounded monthly.

Relationship between the two rates. Let's define:

Why? It is common in engineering to compare alternatives.

THE MEANING OF EQUIVALENCE

In engineering economy two things are said to be equivalent when they have the same effect. Unlike most individual involved with personal finance, industrial decision makers using engineering economics are not so much concerned with the timing of a project's cash flows as with the profitability of that project. This means that mechanisms are needed to compare projects involving receipts and disbursements occurring at different times, with the goal of identifying an alternative having the largest eventual profitability [Lindeberg82].

EQUIVALENCE CALCULATIONS INVOLVING A SINGLE FACTOR

The interest equations are affected by three factors: (a) amounts, (b) times of occurrence of amounts, and (c) rate of interest.

If the receipts and disbursement of cash flow are equivalent for some inter= est rate, the cash flows of any equivalent portion of the investment are eq= ual at that interest rate to the negative (-) of the equivalent amount of t= he cash flows that constitute the remaining portion on the investment.

For example, break-up the above cash flow between year 4 and 5. Perform th= e equivalence at the 4th year produces the following:

MEANING OF IRR

It represents the rate of return on the unrecovered balance of an investment (or loan). The following equation can be developed for loans:

F_t = Amount received at the end of period t.
i^* = IRR.

Do you wish your computer was faster? Engineers and physicists from Germany have demonstrated the quickest prototype yet of an advanced form of RAM tipped by hardware manufacturers to be the future of computing. The device is so fast it brushes against a fundamental speed-limit for the process.
Magnetoresistive random access memory (MRAM) is a faster and more energy efficient version of the RAM used in computers today, and hardware companies think it will in a few years dominate the market. Its speed and low power will in particular boost mobile computing.
Whereas conventional RAM stores a digital 1 or 0 as the level of charge in the capacitor, MRAM stores it by changing the north-south direction of a tiny magnet's magnetic field. Each variable magnet is positioned next to one with a fixed field. Reading a stored value involves running a current through the pair to discover the direction of the variable magnet's field.

MRAM BASICS

(a) In magnetic random access memory (MRAM) the magnetic moment of a magnetic material is used to store data. In this case, a magnetic moment pointing left can represent a "0", while a magnetic moment pointing right can represent a "1". (b) Data can be written to the material by sending an electric current down conductors that pass nearby. In this case, the magnetic field produced by current x puts the magnetization into an intermediate state, and current y then triggers the magnetic moment to move to a particular orientation. Two currents are needed so that a specific magnetic element in an array of many can be read. The stored data can then be read electronically by measuring the material's magnetic moment.

But for some farmers close to Hangzhou (located in the southeast of China), the Herzog & de Meuron structure was just too darn far away... so in a fit of DIY ingenuity, they built their own replica out of bamboo. Steel's apparently kind of hard to get when you're living on a couple of dollars a day.

Altogether, it took ten bamboo sculptors roughly two weeks to put together the Bird's Nest (at a 1:20 scale of the Beijing original) out of 800 pieces of bamboo. The villagers say they plan to use the structure for local sports events. Hmmm... As cool as this DIY structure is, I'm not sure what kind of sport you'd be able to fit in it. Ping pong? MIT conjuring up 6D "super-realistic" image system

2008 has been somewhat of a banner year for 3D, but the brilliant minds at MIT are already working up a system that'll put U23D to shame. Hailed as a "super-realistic image system," the invention produces "6D" images that not only have a full three-dimensional appearance, but also "respond to their environment, producing natural shadows and highlights depending on the direction and intensity of the illumination around them." Without relying on electronics or active control, the process could be used to produce images with an "unprecedented degree of realism" -- resulting in something associate professor Ramesh Raskar calls the "ultimate synthetic display." As expected, initial applications for the ultra-pricey ($30 per pixel, currently) system revolve around digital signage / advertising, but it's really just a matter of time before Six Dimensions of The Jonas Brothers hits a cinema near you.
